We are looking for a Senior Software Delivery Manager to lead delivery on PureGym’s most complex and high-impact software initiatives, owning the full initiative lifecycle from discovery through to close with Software Engineering. You’ll act as agile coach for one or more self-organising delivery squads — building the practice, raising the standard, and progressively handing ownership to the team. You’ll set the delivery standard within the function, mentor Software Delivery Managers, and ensure cross-team initiatives are properly scoped, well-coordinated, and launched with clarity and pace.
This is a remote role, with quarterly meetings in our London Office.
You’ll be the person who keeps the most demanding work moving. That means ensuring initiatives are correctly scoped to the agreed delivery window before they reach teams, running tight discovery with the three-lead group, and holding the In Development phase to that constraint to keep us focused and predictable. You’ll own stakeholder communications throughout, keep risks and dependencies visible, and make sure launches land well.
Alongside your initiative accountability, you’ll serve as agile coach for one or more delivery squads. That means more than running ceremonies — it means building teams that understand why the practices exist and can eventually lead themselves. You know when to hold the process tight, and you know when to step back. A team that has mastered the fundamentals deserves the space to evolve them; a team that skips ceremonies it hasn’t yet understood just needs better coaching. Reading that difference, and adjusting your approach accordingly, is the job.
Beyond your own squads and initiatives, you’ll be the senior practitioner in the delivery team — shaping how the function works, mentoring Software Delivery Managers, and driving continuous improvement in how we plan, run, and close work. You’ll work closely with the Head of Software Delivery on portfolio visibility and the ongoing evolution of our delivery practice.
You’ll be responsible for
- Owning the full initiative lifecycle for complex, cross-team, or high-visibility initiatives — from intake and discovery through to hypercare and close
- Serving as delivery lead, facilitating the right events, reviews, and conversations at each stage to move work forward with pace and clarity
- Ensuring initiatives are correctly scoped to the agreed delivery window during discovery, and holding that constraint with rigour
- Posting weekly initiative updates covering progress, issues, and risks, and owning stakeholder communications throughout the lifecycle
- Acting as agile coach for one or more self-organising delivery squads — running Scrum or Kanban ceremonies, facilitating standups, refinement, planning, and retrospectives.
- Coaching teams to own their own practice: holding the fundamentals firmly while the team builds mastery, then progressively stepping back as they earn the ability to lead and adapt those practices themselves
- Supporting agile planning and forecasting using techniques including capacity planning, magic sizing, and probabilistic forecasting
- Identifying and removing blockers that slow teams down, escalating with appropriate context where needed
- Acting as the senior delivery practitioner in the function — mentoring Software Delivery Managers, sharing best practice, and contributing to how delivery ways of working evolve across the team
- Supporting the Head of Software Delivery on portfolio-level visibility, ensuring initiative status, risks, and dependencies are current and clear across the function
- Ensuring all delivery work is accurately classified across CapEx and OpEx in line with PureGym’s financial controls and budgeting requirements
The Person
You’re an experienced delivery professional who has operated in complex, fast-moving digital environments and knows what great delivery looks like in practice. You bring structure and discipline without adding process for its own sake, and you’re equally comfortable facilitating a discovery session, coaching a retrospective, unblocking a team mid-sprint, or presenting initiative risks to a senior stakeholder.
You understand that great agile coaching isn’t about running ceremonies indefinitely — it’s about building teams that understand the principles behind the practice well enough to lead themselves. You hold the form when foundations need setting. You challenge and stretch teams once they’ve earned confidence. And you know when the greatest contribution you can make is to step back and let the team fly. That judgement — calibrated to where a team actually is, not where you’d like them to be — is what makes a great delivery manager a great agile coach as well.
You’re a natural practitioner and mentor. You raise the standard around you, share what you know freely, and take genuine ownership of outcomes — not just activity.
Qualifications & Skills
We’re looking for someone who
- Has significant hands-on experience as a Delivery Manager, Scrum Master, or Agile Delivery Lead in a digital product or software engineering environment
- Has a deep command of agile delivery — Scrum, Kanban, ceremonies, backlog management, continuous improvement — and brings conviction and coaching ability, not just familiarity
- Understands that agile coaching means reading where a team is on their journey: knowing when to teach the fundamentals with precision, when to challenge the team to experiment and adapt, and when to hand over ownership and step back
- Is comfortable owning the full initiative lifecycle, including discovery, scope management, stakeholder communications, launch, and hypercare
- Can manage cross-team dependencies and risks with clarity, keeping complex work moving without losing visibility
- Communicates clearly and credibly with senior stakeholders, translating delivery complexity into plain language
- Is proactive, outcomes-focused, and makes pragmatic decisions under ambiguity
- Has experience contributing to or shaping delivery practice within a team or function
- Is comfortable with probabilistic forecasting techniques such as capacity planning, magic sizing, or Monte Carlo simulation
Desirable skills & experience
- Experience in a direct-to-consumer digital business (app, website, or e-commerce)
- Familiarity with DORA metrics and high-performance software delivery
- Exposure to big room or quarterly planning frameworks
- Experience mentoring or coaching delivery professionals
- Familiarity with financial accountability in a delivery context, including CapEx/OpEx classification
