Senior Technical Consultant

Liverpool, England, United Kingdom Full-time Posted 1 week ago
Job Description

Job title: Senior Technical Consultant

Salary: Up to £95k (negotiable) + benefits

Role Type: Permanent

Location: Remote (UK-based) with UK-wide travel to client sites

We are seeking a Senior Technical Consultant to provide expert advisory support across major public sector programmes and large-scale digital transformation initiatives. Acting as a trusted technical partner to senior stakeholders, you will ensure that architecture decisions, solutions, and delivery approaches are robust, scalable, and aligned with GDS Service Standards where applicable.

This is a “dual-hat” role: you will lead strategic technical roadmaps at board level while providing hands-on support to delivery teams to resolve complex technical bottlenecks.

Responsibilities

  • Lead high-profile technical projects from initiation to completion, defining project scope, technical roadmaps, and ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
  • Design and implement technical solutions using Azure-based infrastructure, evaluating emerging technologies and taking full accountability for technical decisions across the portfolio.
  • Support business growth by leading technical input for tenders, client pitches, and proposals, working with Technical Leads to shape realistic commercial estimates and scoping activities.
  • Establish technical standards and methodologies across project delivery, leading efforts to secure and maintain relevant accreditations, including ISO frameworks and Cyber Essentials Plus.
  • Provide coaching and mentorship to consultants, embedding a culture of technical excellence and leading knowledge transfer initiatives to build long-term capability for clients.

Requirement

  • Experience delivering projects within the public sector is preferred. Familiarity with the GDS Service Manual and Service Assessments is advantageous but not essential.
  • Deep expertise in designing high-value technical solutions, specifically within Azure environments.
  • Strong knowledge across software development, DevOps (CI/CD), network architecture, and data management.
  • Proven experience in a technical leadership role, with the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence C-suite stakeholders and lead diverse, multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a relevant technical field (Computer Science, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
