Key Responsibilities
- Design scalable, secure and resilient application architectures aligned to business and user requirements.
- Define architecture patterns for web applications, APIs, integrations and cloud-native services.
- Lead application modernisation initiatives, including migration of legacy applications and adoption of modern engineering practices.
- Produce and maintain architecture artefacts including High-Level Designs (HLDs), technical roadmaps and architecture decision records.
- Work closely with engineering teams to ensure architecture principles are successfully implemented.
- Define integration approaches across applications, data platforms, APIs and third-party services.
- Collaborate with cloud and platform teams to ensure solutions are optimised for AWS and modern cloud environments.
- Promote best practice across software architecture, security, performance, observability and resilience.
- Support architecture governance through design reviews, peer reviews and architecture assurance activities.
- Drive adoption of modern engineering practices including CI/CD, Infrastructure as Code and DevSecOps approaches.
- Mentor engineers, technical leads and junior architects.
- Contribute to recruitment and growth of the wider architecture and engineering community.
Bachelor's Degree
Required Technical And Professional Expertise
- Experience designing enterprise-scale applications and distributed systems.
- Strong background in Java and modern application development frameworks.
- Experience designing microservices-based architectures and RESTful APIs.
- Experience working within cloud environments, ideally AWS.
- Strong understanding of software architecture patterns, design principles and engineering best practices.
- Experience modernising legacy applications and supporting cloud adoption initiatives.
- Experience working with container technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes/EKS.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines, automation and modern software delivery practices.
- Ability to communicate architecture decisions to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Experience producing architecture deliverables such as HLDs, solution designs and technical decision records.
Preferred Technical And Professional Experience
- AWS architecture or engineering experience.
- Experience with event-driven architectures and messaging technologies.
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, EKS and cloud-native application platforms.
- Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code using Terraform or CloudFormation.
- Experience with observability tooling such as CloudWatch, Prometheus, Grafana or ELK.
- Experience within large-scale enterprise, regulated or security-conscious environments.
- Exposure to architecture governance, design authorities and technical assurance processes.
- Experience leading or mentoring engineering teams.
- Active UK Security Clearance.
