Job Overview

We are seeking an AFC-Approved MBT Supervisor to lead the MBT provision across Jameson. The post is 1 day per week at 8b level and comprises the supervision and governance of around 20 MBT practitioners. This is a permanent role covering four boroughs. It can be done remotely. Main duties of the job

  • To plan and coordinate the provision of MBT supervision across Jameson Division
  • To hold and continually update a register of MBT practitioners across the Division for oversight to ensure all MBT practice is appropriately supervised backgrounds to flourish by working to create a psychologically safe environment.
  • To champion MBT and the needs of MBT therapists to ensure systems are in place and working effectively for MBT to be offered safely and effectively for service users from all backgrounds
  • To support the undertaking of service evaluation, audit, research and policy development
  • To work as an autonomous professional within BPS/UKCP/HCPC guidelines and codes of conduct, and guided by principles and policies or procedures of the service, taking responsibility for interpreting policies within defined parameters.
  • To work with the Head of Psychotherapy to agree outcomes/results and to decide how they are best achieved.
  • To be proactive in challenging discrimination and support the development of culturally competent services.
  • To have an eye on future developments for MBT nationally, to advise on implementation at CNWL
  • To ensure own MBT practice is continuously updated and improved in line with national developments

Responsibilities

KR 1 Responsibilities for team or service clinical functioning

  • To set up supervision group meetings for MBT Teams to ensure effective functioning and review when appropriate
  • To include all MBT practitioners regardless of professional background including Advanced Lived Experience Practitioners
  • To take a lead in ensuring a psychotherapeutically informed MBT framework
  • To utilise theory, evidence-based literature and research to support evidence based practice, in individual work and work with other team members.

KR 2 Policy and service development

  • To implement policies and procedures in own area of work.
  • To identify any aspects of the MBT service which could be improved and propose changes to practices or procedures that affect the MBT service and may also affect other services.
  • To initiate and implement service development projects, as agreed with clinical/professional lead.
  • To participate in the ongoing implementation of new initiatives (e.g. national guidelines) across relevant services.
  • To lead the consultation and engagement of service users in planning and delivering services which meet the needs of local communities.

KR 4 Care or management of resources

  • To take care of, and use carefully, the Trust’s equipment and physical resources.
  • To ensure that the post-holder has sufficient resources by estimating future needs and requesting or ordering supplies as needed.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria

  • Evidence of having worked as a clinical specialist in MBT
  • Evidence of having supervised MBT
  • Evidence of Leadership for a function within a department
  • Experience of specialist psychotherapy assessment and treatment of patients with a range of psychological needs of a complex nature in Complex Emotional Needs inc Complex PTSD, BPD etc.
  • Experience of providing teaching and training to psychotherapists or other professional groups.
  • Experience that supports working with, and addressing issues of, diversity within local communities.
  • Experience of carrying out audit or service evaluation projects
  • Experience of proposing and implementing service development projects within own service area.
  • Record of presentation of, or publications in, either peer reviewed, academic or professional journals/books

Desirable criteria

  • Experience of leading research projects
  • Experience of leading MBT within a department

Qualifications

Essential criteria

  • Accredited MBT therapist
  • Meets criteria for MBT Supervisor Training
  • Able to start MBT Supervisor Accreditation qualification from AFC within the year
  • Entry-level qualification in Psychotherapy, Arts Therapy or Psychology that has been accepted by the BPS/HCPC/UKCP or other Accrediting Body for purposes of professional registration
  • Registered with the BPS/HCPC/UKCP or other Accrediting Body for purposes of professional registration, and evidence of continuing professional development as required.

Desirable criteria

  • Accredited MBT Supervisor or booked onto next MBT SV training

Knowledge / Skills

Essential criteria

  • Highly developed knowledge of the theory and practice of MBT
  • Advanced theoretical knowledge of psychopathology and the evidence base for the relevant treatment
  • Advanced knowledge of psychotherapy assessment and clinical psychometrics (e.g. experience of use of CORE, etc.
  • Knowledge of legislation in relation to the client group and mental health issues, child and adult protection, and equalities.
  • Knowledge of factors affecting acceptability and accessibility of mental health care.
  • Knowledge of the delivery of psychological therapy across cultural and other differences.
  • Knowledge of specialist psychotherapy assessments, interpreting and integrating complex data that require analysis, interpretation and comparison, drawn from several sources, on which expert opinion may differ.
  • Ability to communicate skilfully and sensitively complex and sensitive information with colleagues overcoming barriers to communication including sensory, and emotional difficulties, cultural differences and hostility to or rejection of information.
  • To plan and schedule assessment and interventions for individual patients and groups and carers, and to organise meetings such as case reviews.
  • To plan projects and work schedules for groups of psychotherapists.
  • Well-developed IT skills including analysis of research data for teaching purposes.
  • Skills in providing teaching and training to other professional groups
  • Ability to work effectively within a multi disciplinary team, contributing to effective team functioning and holding team roles.
  • Ability to identify and employ mechanisms of clinical governance as appropriate.
  • Ability to develop and use complex multi media materials for presentations in public, professional and academic meetings
  • Ability to maintain concentration and to remain in restricted positions for long periods during observations, assessments and interventions, and to deal with unexpected interruptions or changes during these.
  • Ability to manage emotionally stressful situations such as working with victims of abuse or trauma, or with people who engage in severe self-harming or aggressive behaviour.
  • Ability to manage verbal aggression and hostility directed at self.
