Warehouse Logistics Manager
WAREHOUSE MANAGER
Central London | Hands-On | High Autonomy | Continuous Improvement
This is not a job for someone who wants to manage a warehouse from a desk.
Hughes Electronics is an established British SME designing, manufacturing and supplying specialist connectivity products to the telecommunications industry.
We're looking for an exceptional hands-on Warehouse Manager to take ownership of our Central London warehouse and logistics operation.
We already have established operating procedures and a comprehensive quality and operations system. What we need is the right person to own it, operate it and continually improve it.
The opportunityYou will be given considerable autonomy to run the warehouse, including:
· Goods receiving and inspection
· Stock control and stock accuracy
· Picking, packing and dispatch
· Courier and logistics coordination
· Inventory organisation and replenishment
· Urgent and same-day customer requirements
· Warehouse housekeeping and safety
· Documentation and traceability
· Staff organisation and productivity
· Identifying and eliminating operational problems
But this role goes further than keeping the warehouse running. We expect you to improve it.
Hughes operates on a philosophy of constant and never-ending improvement. If something wastes time, simplify it. If something regularly goes wrong, find the root cause. If stock is difficult to locate, reorganise it. If a process can be made faster without compromising quality, test a better way. If you see a problem, take ownership of it.
We don't want someone who simply reports problems upwards. We want someone who solves problems within their authority and tells us what they've done.
What we're looking forYou'll notice when something isn't right, enjoy making things work better and feel comfortable making decisions without constantly asking permission. You'll happily pick an urgent order, move stock, pack a shipment and lead your team when necessary.
· Highly organised and methodical
· Hands-on and energetic
· Obsessive about stock accuracy
· Calm under pressure
· Comfortable taking responsibility
· Commercially aware
· Quality conscious
· Computer literate
· A clear communicator
· Interested in products and how things work
· Able to manage and develop a small team
· Naturally interested in continuous improvement
Experience in warehousing, logistics, stock control, manufacturing or technical distribution would be valuable. Telecoms or electronics experience would be useful, attitude, intelligence and ownership are essential from day one.
What success looks likeAfter month one, we shouldn't need to tell you how to run the warehouse. You should know what's happening. Your team should know what's expected. After month 2 stock should be accurate. Orders should leave correctly and on time. Problems should be visible and dealt with. Every month the operation should be noticeably better.
One question before you applyThink about the last warehouse, factory or operation you worked in:
What did you personally change that made it measurably better?
If you immediately have several examples, we'd particularly like to hear from you. If your instinct is that changing things wasn't your responsibility, this probably isn't the right role.
Interested? Please send us your CV together with a short answer to the question above. We're much more interested in what you've actually improved than a perfectly polished application.
