Historic Environment Scotland is a public body that manages, protects, and promotes the historic environment of Scotland. The organisation is responsible for safeguarding Scotland’s designated heritage sites, making scheduling consent decisions, and conserving a collection of more than 45,000 culturally significant objects.

In addition to its conservation work, the body runs educational tours, manages historical archives, and provides funding to support partnership working across the heritage sector. It also works directly with communities to help them champion and identify local heritage sites.
