This is an opportunity for a suitably qualified individual with relevant Biomedical Science experience (such as Advanced Biomedical Support worker) and relevant Biomedical Science qualification (e.g. HND, Foundation level Science Degree), to work in NHS Lothian, Department of Laboratory Medicine, Blood Science Laboratories.
This post has a unique role spanning core laboratory duties with a Combined Reception area along with opportunities for people management (TURAS, SSTS, rota development and deployment), stock and equipment management and Health and Safety. This post is part of a team ensuring that the vital pre analytical area of Combined Reception run both safely and effectively and the first point on contact for both specimens and users of the service.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, with a strong work ethic and the ability to adapt to a constantly changing environment. NHS Lothian is introducing a new Laboratory Computer System (LIMS) over the next few years, and this will reshape the current reception processes and this post will be vital to the successful implementation of the new LIMS alongside the other Reception Supervisors, Referrals and Training Lead and the Reception Team Manager.
Following suitable training and competency assessment this post will be required to cover extended day, weekend and overnight working.
Working hours are currently 36 per week.

As from 1 April 2026, the Agenda for Change full-time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part time hours will be reduced pro-rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
