  • Show us the real you: Your application should reflect your skills, experience, and motivations authentically.
  • Use AI wisely: It’s fine to use AI for ideas or to check spelling and grammar, but don’t let it write your answers.
  • Why this matters: Applications that rely on AI-generated content may be withdrawn. By applying, you confirm your responses are based on your own knowledge and achievements.

Tip: Think of AI as a helper, not a substitute. We want to understand younot an AI tool.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in the NHS Lothian Molecular Pathology service (currently based between Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh & Western General Hospital, with a proposed move to Lauriston site in 2028).

The laboratory is part of the Scottish Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine funded by Public Services Delivery Scotland (PSDS) to provide Genetic and Molecular Pathology diagnostic testing in Scotland. Applications are invited from scientists with a strong background in molecular pathology / cancer genomics, an interest in developing diagnostic services, good interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.

The successful applicant will have a high level of responsibility in the provision of specialist molecular testing including analysis, interpretation, and reporting and a responsibility for the quality standards required by the service. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to the development of targeted gene panel-based approaches using next generation sequencing in accordance with the requirements of the department.

All applicants should have experience of working as a HCPC registered Clinical Scientist in an ISO accredited diagnostic laboratory and have specialist clinical and scientific knowledge in the diagnosis and monitoring of solid tumours and haematological malignancies. Knowledge of molecular methodologies and experience in the use of specialist analytical software, combined with interpretation of a range of scientific data and reporting of results in a range of scenarios is preferable.

We are committed to continuous development and have an active Continuing Professional Development programme available to all staff. This post offers excellent opportunities to broaden experience in a molecular pathology diagnostic laboratory together with developing both training and service development roles. There are also other opportunities working with us e.g. ability to work flexibly such as home working.
