Associate Transport Planner
Shape the future of transport. Lead major projects. Grow a thriving team.
At Stantec, we're helping clients deliver some of the UK's most ambitious development and infrastructure projects. As demand for our transport planning expertise continues to grow, we're looking for an experienced Associate Transport Planner to play a leading role in the continued success and expansion of our Reading team.
This is more than a technical role. It's an opportunity to influence strategy, strengthen client relationships, mentor talented professionals and help shape the future direction of our transport planning business across the South East.
Based in our modern Reading office, you'll work alongside experts from across Stantec's multidisciplinary business, collaborating with colleagues in civil engineering, environmental planning, utilities, flood risk, masterplanning and infrastructure design to deliver integrated solutions for a diverse range of clients.
Whether supporting strategic land promotion, unlocking complex development opportunities or delivering sustainable transport strategies, you'll have the opportunity to make a lasting impact on the places and communities we help create.
About The Role
As an Associate Transport Planner, you'll be a key member of our leadership team, responsible for delivering high-quality transport planning advice while supporting the growth and development of the business.
You'll lead projects across both private and public sector clients, working closely with developers, land promoters, local authorities and other key stakeholders to deliver commercially successful and technically robust solutions.
Your responsibilities will include
- Leading the delivery of complex transport planning projects from initial feasibility and land promotion through to planning consent and implementation.
- Acting as a trusted advisor to clients, developing long-term relationships and identifying opportunities to provide additional value.
- Preparing, reviewing and overseeing Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport strategies and supporting technical documentation.
- Providing strategic transport planning advice across residential, mixed-use, employment, regeneration and infrastructure projects.
- Managing project teams, budgets, programme delivery and quality assurance.
- Supporting business development activities, including client engagement, networking, framework opportunities, fee proposals and tender submissions.
- Working collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams to deliver innovative and integrated solutions.
- Mentoring and developing junior team members, helping to build capability and future leaders within the business.
- Contributing to the continued growth and reputation of Stantec's Transport Planning team across the South East.
Your Impact
This is a role where you'll have genuine influence.
You'll help clients unlock challenging development opportunities, shape transport strategies that support sustainable growth and contribute to major investment decisions across the region.
You'll also play a key role in developing our people, strengthening our client relationships and helping grow a successful and ambitious transport planning business.
About You
We're looking for an experienced transport planning professional who combines strong technical expertise with commercial awareness, leadership skills and a passion for delivering exceptional client service.
You'll ideally have
- Significant experience within transport planning consultancy.
- A strong track record delivering development planning projects across the private and/or public sectors.
- Experience leading Transport Assessments, Travel Plans, transport strategies and planning applications for complex developments.
- Strong understanding of the UK planning system and transport policy framework.
- Experience managing client relationships and acting as a trusted advisor.
- Proven ability to lead project teams, manage budgets and oversee technical delivery.
- Experience supporting business development, winning work and contributing to team growth.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- A degree in Transport Planning, Engineering, Geography or a related discipline.
- Chartered status, Chartered Transport Planning Professional (CTPP), or progress towards professional accreditation would be advantageous.
