Commodity Manager
A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Commodity Manager for Siemens Energy, you will take ownership of developing and implementing global sourcing strategies that support our manufacturing operations. You will work closely with Engineering, Quality, Procurement and business management to ensure a competitive, reliable and cost-effective supply base that meets our requirements for quality, delivery, capacity and technical capability.
Your day will involve analysing supplier markets, identifying sourcing opportunities, negotiating commercial agreements and working with strategic suppliers to improve performance. You will lead a cross-functional commodity circle, bringing together colleagues from different areas of the business to align sourcing decisions with current requirements and longer-term objectives.
You will also monitor market developments, manufacturing cost drivers and supply chain risks, adapting your strategy to maintain supply continuity and improve competitiveness. Through supplier visits, business reviews and performance reporting, you will build strong commercial relationships and demonstrate the value of your commodity strategy.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop and implement global commodity and sourcing strategies, establishing a cross-functional commodity circle to align procurement decisions with business requirements for cost, quality, lead time and capacity.
- Analyse supplier markets, material availability, manufacturing cost drivers and pricing trends to identify competitive sourcing opportunities, including dual or multiple sourcing, regional suppliers and low-cost country options.
- Lead supplier identification, evaluation and selection, working closely with Engineering and Quality to ensure technical requirements are met and to identify opportunities for value engineering, new technologies and continuous improvement.
- Manage strategic supplier relationships through regular engagement, site visits and quarterly business reviews, monitoring performance against key performance indicators (KPIs) for cost, quality, delivery and contractual compliance.
- Negotiate and manage framework agreements, pricing agreements and commercial contracts, overseeing the contract lifecycle and securing competitive terms while supporting cost reduction and supply continuity.
- Conduct spend analysis and total cost of ownership (TCO) assessments to identify savings opportunities, evaluate supply chain risks and implement mitigation measures covering financial, operational and geopolitical disruptions.
What You Bring
- A degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Business Administration or a related technical or commercial discipline is preferred. Equivalent relevant professional experience will also be considered.
- At least five years of experience in supplier-facing purchasing, strategic sourcing, commodity management or technical roles, with the ability to independently manage complex sourcing activities.
- Experience working with technical commodities in a manufacturing or industrial environment, ideally involving machined components, with an understanding of relevant manufacturing processes. Knowledge of metal forming processes would be a distinct advantage.
- Strong commercial and negotiation skills, including experience managing supplier contracts, pricing agreements, contractual terms and conditions and supplier performance.
- Good analytical skills, with experience in market research, spend analysis, cost evaluation, supplier risk assessment and identifying opportunities to improve total cost of ownership.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with Engineering, Quality, business management and suppliers. Experience coaching or reviewing the work of others would be beneficial.
