At Edge Health, we use data, economics and technology to solve difficult problems in healthcare and life sciences. We work with NHS organisations, government, life sciences companies and healthcare innovators on questions where good analysis can change a decision, a service or a policy.

We are looking for a Consultant with 4+ years of professional experience, ideally in a consulting or healthcare analytics background to join our team full-time in London. You're someone who wants to lead projects and client relationships without moving away from the analytical work. Our consulting business focusses on both the delivery of projects to meet clients’ needs, and the development of repeatable propositions to take to market.

Key skills and competencies we are looking for include:

• Experience planning projects and managing them on a day to day basis;
• Interest in building long-term client relationships and becoming a trusted adviser;
• Passion for working with healthcare data, and ideally experience of having done so;
• Technical skills and experience, such as data economics, statistics, coding, data science or modelling;
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; and
• Enthusiasm for working closely with our clients and partner organisations as well as with other members of the Edge team.

What's it like to work at Edge?

The role is deliberately a mix of consulting and analysis. At Consultant level you are senior enough to lead day-to-day client work and manage colleagues, but you are still expected to get into the substance, including: interrogating data, building or challenging a model, working with engineers and economists, and forming a view on what the analysis means.

The work is varied and often begins with a question rather than a prescribed method. We might be helping an NHS team redesign a service, evaluating the economics of a new technology, or building a tool that lets a client answer the question themselves. Because consulting, economics, data science and engineering sit closely together, people can move between these kinds of problems.

We are also small enough for people to shape what Edge does. Consultants can develop areas of expertise, start new propositions, publish work and test ideas outside client projects. We set aside two training days each quarter, and recent internal development time has produced new public tools as well as client propositions.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities within this role include:

• Project planning and management: Taking responsibility for the planning and management of consulting projects, overseen by a Senior Consultant or Director;
• Applying technical & industry expertise: Be a trusted and expert advisor to our clients in areas of technical (e.g. data science, health economics and modelling) or domain (e.g. healthcare and life sciences) expertise;
• People management: Managing a team of 2-4 colleagues within larger projects;
• Client management: Managing client expectations, writing update briefs for clients and presenting progress or outputs;
• Relationship-building: Building a strong network of clients and contacts within the health industry;
• Innovation: Proactively learning from past projects and experiences to build and develop new propositions for use within the health sector;
• Helping to win new work: Contributing to writing scope documents, bidding material and responses to tender requests;
• Business development: Supporting the wider growth of Edge, through development of marketing material and team training and development;
• Key account management: Taking on one or two key accounts with senior clients for whom we have delivered repeated propositions.

• At least 4 years of professional experience, working in a consulting, data, healthcare or closely-related setting;
• Experience of managing, coaching, training and developing less experienced colleagues and new hires;
• Experience of working day-to-day with clients or other organisations or teams in a professional setting;
• Domain knowledge in areas of healthcare, life sciences or related fields which you can bring to our clients as a trusted expert;
• Technical skills in the fields of data science, economics, engineering or statistics developed either through academia or professional experience;
• Be highly motivated, self-driven and versatile, and excited to work within a growing, entrepreneurial consultancy;
• Have the ability to engage effectively and enjoyably with a range of people, and to communicate impactfully the findings and implications of their work;
• Have a knowledge of languages such as SQL, R and Python, or a willingness and ability to learn how to do so quickly;
• Have experience of managing, planning and delivering projects and outputs to tight timescales and to a high quality;
• Take proactive responsibility for personal development, and the development of individuals and teams around them.
