Consultant Plastic Surgeon - Skin & Mohs Interest

Job summary

The post is for a substantive Consultant in Plastic Surgery with a Skin Cancer and Mohs and Surgery interest. This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated surgeon to join a dynamic, rapidly expanding team delivering multidisciplinary care within the Mersey Regional Burns and Plastic Surgery unit based at Mersey and West Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust. This is a whole-time post with a weekly peripheral site clinical commitment.

Applicants are required to hold Membership of the Royal College of Surgeons (UK or equivalent qualifications), to be fully registered with the General Medical Council, and to be on the Specialist Register or due to obtain their CCT within six months of the date of interview. Interviews will take place on Friday 11th December 2026.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will have a responsibility for the running of their clinical service, integrating this with the department as a whole and ensuring appropriate communication with general practitioners, managers, and hospital committees. The appointee will be responsible for contributing to the achievement of relevant aspects if the Trusts contractual obligations and business plans.

The appointee will be expected to ensure their clinical service is in accordance with the principles of Clinical Governance which must include appropriate clinical audit, clinical targets, key performance indicators (KPI's), evidence-based practice, continued personal educational and professional development. The post holder will also be expected to comply with existing appraisal procedures, job planning and revalidation procedures.

Specialist Regional Services We provide the Mersey Regional Burns & Plastic Surgery Unit at Whiston Hospital and the Spinal Injuries Unit at Southport Hospital to more than 4 million people across the whole of Merseyside, West Lancashire, Cheshire, Isle of Man and North Wales.

Experience in the management of Mohs & skin cancer. Teaching: Evidence of appropriate teaching experience within the last 3 years

Fellowship in Mohs surgery Evidence of relevant research e.g. presentations, publications in peer reviewed journals within the last 3 years relevant to plastic surgery, Mohs and skin cancer surgery. Evidence of relevant academic achievements, e.g. degrees, awards, in the last 3 years.
