Events Officer
At Bath & North East Somerset Council we have one overriding purpose – to improve people’s lives.
About the Team
Help bring remarkable events, cultural activities and filming projects to life across Bath and North East Somerset.
Bath and North East Somerset is an extraordinary place in which to create memorable experiences. We are looking for an enthusiastic, organised and collaborative Events Officer who can turn ideas into safe, engaging and professionally delivered activities.
This is an exciting opportunity to work with event organisers, cultural partners, suppliers, colleagues and communities, helping to coordinate public events, outreach activities, filming and cultural programmes across the area.
About the Role
No two days will be quite the same. You could be developing an event management plan, advising an organiser on regulatory requirements, coordinating suppliers, preparing a promotional campaign or being on site to support the successful delivery of an event.
You will
- coordinate the planning and delivery of public events, cultural activities, outreach projects and filming activity;
- prepare clear and comprehensive management plans so that activities are delivered safely, effectively, on time and within agreed budgets;
- work closely with organisers, Council services and external partners to ensure that procedures and statutory obligations are understood and met;
- provide practical advice on health and safety, regulatory and statutory requirements, including engagement with the Safety Advisory Group for Events where appropriate;
- develop marketing materials and promotional campaigns, including activity across social media;
- procure services and supplies, and help manage organiser and supplier contracts;
- contribute to risk assessments, budget monitoring and the coordination of staff working as part of event and project teams; and
- attend events, filming and cultural programmes to help coordinate their operational delivery.
About You
You will be the first point of contact for event organisers and film production companies, providing expert advice, practical support and professional guidance to help bring exciting events and filming projects to life across Council-owned venues and public spaces.
You will be someone who enjoys making things happen. Calm under pressure and confident working with different people, you will combine creative thinking with the attention to detail needed to deliver safe, compliant and successful activities.
You will bring
- experience of planning and coordinating public events and/or filming activity;
- a strong understanding of event or film management processes, procedures and policies;
- knowledge of relevant statutory, regulatory and health and safety requirements;
- experience of project planning, risk assessment, procurement and contract management;
- the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver high-quality work to agreed timescales;
- excellent communication and relationship-building skills;
- the confidence to provide clear advice, influence decisions and work constructively with a wide range of customers and stakeholders; and
- knowledge of marketing and promotional activity, including social media.
You should be educated to diploma or degree level, or be able to demonstrate an equivalent level of knowledge and experience. No specific professional membership is required.
