Responsibilities
- Supervision of gangers and operatives within section
- Work with line manager on plant, labour and programme.
- Ensure safe systems of work for the work you are involved in or near to.
- Ensure high standard of quality on your section of work to meet the specification requirements.
- Work with engineers on setting out information and details of technical information, contributing to the preparation of activity plans.
- Maintain daily diaries and allocation sheets.
- Ensure competency of the workforce in your section, including sub-contractors.
- Ensure all plant and machinery complies with relevant standards, e.g. LOLER and PUWER. Review plant, labour and materials on a daily basis with your line manager.
- Supervise and assist sub-contractors as required.
- Ensure all statutory weekly or daily inspections are carried out, e.g. excavations, scaffold, environment and safety.
- Effectively deliver communication and training sessions, e.g. tool box talks, safety alerts and activity plans and briefings.
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
- Successful experience as a ganger or skilled operative
- Able to read drawings and construct the works to them.
- Successful experience of working to a programme.
- Awareness of current construction legislation.
- Able to keep written records.
- Demonstrated competence in general civil engineering activities and safe systems of work.
- Successful management of sub-contractors
- Awareness of Plant operations
- Awareness of Mentoring Scheme

- Attendance of SMSTS
- Attendance of Site Briefing Presenters course
- Attendance of Annual Management of Health & Safety course and Your Safety is My Safety
- Completion of Site Supervisor Training Programme
- NVQ Level 3 Construction Supervision
- Qualified first aider
- SEATS
- Working towards NVQ level 4
