Job Purpose As a HR Advisor, you will put the human back into HR by providing practical, personalised, commercially focused and legally compliant HR and employment law advice to a diverse range of clients. You will take time to understand the people and circumstances behind every query, managing employee relations matters from straightforward questions to complex cases. By assessing each situation, explaining options and risks clearly, and tailoring your guidance to the client’s needs, you will support confident decision-making, build trusted relationships and contribute to a high-quality advisory service in a varied, fast-paced environment.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities • Provide accurate, timely and legally compliant HR and employment law advice by telephone and email. • Manage a varied caseload of employee relations matters, including disciplinary, grievance, absence, performance, capability, family-friendly rights, flexible working, probation, dismissal, redundancy and restructuring cases. • Support complex cases from initial enquiry through to resolution by understanding client objectives, reviewing documentation, assessing risks and presenting clear, practical options. • Build trusted client relationships by listening carefully, understanding the individual people and circumstances behind each case, and providing empathetic, personalised and commercially focused advice. Coach clients through decisions with clarity and care, helping them feel supported while strengthening client engagement and retention. • Produce high-quality, bespoke HR documentation for clients, including letters, outcome documents, meeting records, email responses, memos, advice notes and other employment-related communications, while maintaining accurate records of advice provided, actions taken and client information. • Maintain professional knowledge, use relevant technology and AI-enabled tools effectively, contribute to training and process improvements, support complaint resolution and collaborate with colleagues to ensure high-quality service delivery. • Review client documentation and provide advice that takes account of the client’s applicable internal terms and conditions. • Undertake client visits as required by the Advisory Service Teams and complete any associated reports. • Follow internal protocols for managing and escalating cases, ensuring high-quality handovers and clear, prompt communication with specialist teams. • Identify appropriate opportunities for clients to use other products and services, explaining and recommending relevant options. • Actively seek and encourage client feedback through appropriate channels to support service improvement and strengthen Peninsula’s online reputation. • Support consultants joining the business and deliver training to colleagues and clients as required. • Log all advice accurately on the bespoke internal system, taking ownership and responsibility for ongoing cases. • Carry out any other tasks reasonably required by the Management Team.
Skills, experience and knowledge • Practical experience in HR advisory, employee relations, people management or a related role, with a sound working knowledge of employment law, HR principles and best practice. • Experience managing a broad range of employee relations matters, with the ability to research, interpret and apply legislation, guidance and case law accurately while identifying and communicating legal, operational and commercial risks. • Strong written and verbal communication, listening, questioning and relationship-building skills, with the ability to provide balanced, client-focused advice and explain complex issues clearly. • Excellent organisation, attention to detail and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities independently, adapt to change, use relevant systems effectively and remain committed to continuous professional development and high-quality client service.
