The organisation has invested significantly in its finance technology landscape, including Workday Financials, and is looking for a technically strong Financial Controller who can combine robust accounting expertise with practical system knowledge to provide immediate impact.
Working closely with senior finance leadership, you will take ownership of core financial control processes, audit readiness activities and team management responsibilities, ensuring the finance function continues to operate effectively while maintaining a strong control environment.
This is a hands-on assignment for a proven Financial Controller who can hit the ground running, lead a finance team, manage external auditors and deliver key finance objectives with minimal supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of key financial control and reporting activities, ensuring accurate and timely month-end close processes.
- Lead audit readiness and preparation activities ahead of the annual external audit.
- Act as the primary finance contact for auditors, coordinating requests, deliverables and stakeholder engagement throughout the audit process.
- Ensure audit schedules, supporting documentation and working papers are prepared accurately and delivered within required timelines.
- Oversee balance sheet reconciliations and maintain the integrity of the control environment.
- Review existing financial control processes and identify opportunities to strengthen governance and reporting accuracy.
- Utilise Workday Financials to support reporting, financial controls and operational efficiency across the finance function.
- Manage statutory and regulatory reporting requirements, ensuring compliance with all relevant obligations.
- Provide leadership and direction to the finance team, supporting both qualified and transactional accounting staff.
- Work closely with senior stakeholders to resolve technical accounting matters and mitigate financial reporting risks.
- Support ongoing finance operations while balancing audit and reporting priorities.
- Operate autonomously, taking ownership of deliverables with minimal day-to-day supervision.
To Be Successful
- Fully qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA, CIMA or equivalent) with experience operating at Financial Controller, Head of Finance, Senior Finance Manager or similar level.
- Proven hands-on experience with Workday Financials.
- Demonstrable experience leading external audits and managing audit preparation activities.
- Strong technical accounting expertise, including financial controls, balance sheet management and statutory reporting.
- Previous experience managing month-end reporting processes within a complex business environment.
- Experience leading and developing finance teams.
- Strong understanding of regulatory reporting and compliance requirements.
- Self-sufficient, analytical and commercially minded, with the ability to solve problems and deliver outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Available to start in mid-November and commit through the key audit period.
The process is expected to move quickly, with interviews commencing shortly and the business keen to identify a shortlist of candidates as soon as possible.
If your experience combines strong Financial Controller leadership, audit delivery expertise and genuine Workday Financials experience, we'd be pleased to hear from you. Due to the specialist nature of the requirement, relevant candidates are likely to be limited, therefore early applications are encouraged.
