Management Accountant
Location: Shoreditch, London
Working Pattern: Office based with Thursday WFH
Salary: £50,000–£55,000 + annual bonus
Reports to: Fractional CFO
Works closely with: Finance Manager, Finance Analyst, Supply Chain, Growth, Operations, Clinic and Pharmacy teams
Who are we?
Since medical cannabis was legalised in the UK in 2018, Cantourage UK has been building the infrastructure that makes this industry work - safely, compliantly and at scale.
We operate across two deeply interconnected worlds
- A regulated tele-health clinic, delivering high-quality patient care
- A licensed pharmaceutical supply operation, powering the wider ecosystem
Together, they form a complex, high-trust system where clinical integrity, operational excellence and smart technology must work in lockstep.
As Cantourage continues to scale, we are strengthening the Finance function to ensure that the business has the financial insight, forecasting capability and commercial support needed for our next stage of growth.
What is the purpose of the role?
This is a brand-new role, created to sharpen how Cantourage plans, forecasts and makes decisions. Reporting to our Fractional CFO and working day-to-day with our Finance Manager and Finance Analyst, you’ll be the person who connects the dots, turning financial and operational information into management accounts, forecasts and recommendations that leadership actually acts on.
This isn’t a close-the-month-and-move-on role. It’s for someone who wants to know why margin moved, where cash is getting stuck and which customers and products are really creating value, and who’s confident enough to challenge assumptions and help teams improve results.
What impact will you have?
Management accounts that tell the story
- Own timely, accurate monthly management accounts for Cantourage UK and Cantourage Clinic including the P&L, balance sheet and cash flow
- Explain actual vs budget vs forecast, getting to the root of material variances
- Write commentary that explains the underlying business drivers, not just the numbers
- Work with the Finance Manager to keep financial information accurate, complete and consistent
- Help the CFO shape executive-level reporting and build out KPI reporting across the business
Forecasts the business can rely on
- Support the CFO on the annual budget and maintain integrated rolling forecasts across P&L, balance sheet and cash
- Support the rolling 13-week cash-flow process and build scenario analysis for key decisions
- Challenge forecast assumptions and work with budget owners to improve accuracy and accountability
Cash, working capital & profitability
- Partner with the Finance Analyst on DSO, DPO, inventory ageing, slow-moving stock and expiry exposure
- Turn that analysis into real actions with Supply Chain, Growth and Operations, improving inventory turns and cash conversion
- Build profitability views by customer, product and category, and help set the margin thresholds that guide commercial decisions
- Bring financial insight to pricing, customer negotiations and new commercial opportunities
Business partnering
- Partner with department heads, helping them understand performance and the financial consequences of their decisions
- Support business cases for new initiatives and investments
- Flag material risks and opportunities to the CFO early
Better processes, one source of truth
- Document and standardise management accounting processes alongside the Finance Manager
- Cut manual reporting, spot automation opportunities and improve data quality
- Help build one reliable source of financial and operational management information as we scale
What will you bring to the table?
- ACCA, CIMA or ACA qualified (or a finalist close to qualifying)
- Hands-on experience producing monthly management accounts, including variance analysis and commentary
- Experience building and maintaining integrated P&L, balance sheet and cash-flow forecasts
- Strong Excel and financial modelling skills - you’re comfortable building from a blank page
- The ability to explain numbers in plain language to non-finance colleagues, and to challenge constructively
- Natural curiosity - you instinctively ask “why?” and keep digging until you find the answer
If you have the following, it'll be a huge bonus
- Experience in pharma, healthcare, distribution or another inventory-heavy, regulated business
- Customer and SKU-level profitability analysis
- Multi-entity reporting, or experience within a listed group
- Experience with BI tools or finance automation projects
- Time spent in a scale-up where finance processes were still being built
Who wouldn't thrive in this role?
If you’re looking for a role where you close the month, send the pack and move on, this isn’t it. Equally, if you’d rather stay behind the spreadsheet than sit down with operational and commercial teams, or you need fully mature systems and processes to do your best work, you’ll likely find this role frustrating. We need someone who’s energised by asking “why?”, comfortable challenging senior stakeholders, and happy to help build the foundations as we grow.
