Job Description

The opportunity

We are looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Practice Development Lawyer to join our Employment team.

This is a senior and influential role at the heart of the practice. Working closely with our Employment Partners, lawyers, clients and wider business teams, you will help shape how we develop and share our expertise, respond to legal and market change and deliver innovative, commercially focused solutions for our clients.

You will be part of an established and collaborative PDL team, with the autonomy to lead strategic knowledge and client initiatives, develop new ideas and play an active role in the continued development of our Employment practice.

What You'll Be Doing

Your role will combine technical expertise, strategic insight, innovation and client engagement. You will:

  • Lead horizon scanning across key legal, regulatory and market developments, translating change into clear, commercially relevant insight for our lawyers and clients.
  • Work closely with Partners, Legal Directors and senior stakeholders to identify emerging issues, opportunities and priorities for the Employment practice.
  • Lead the development of high-quality knowhow, guidance, precedents, toolkits and other resources that support our lawyers and clients.
  • Identify opportunities to develop new products, resources and ways of working that improve client service and internal efficiency.
  • Lead strategic knowledge and client projects from initial concept and scoping through to delivery and implementation.
  • Collaborate with our Advanced Delivery, Central Knowledge and Research teams to explore how people, process and technology can enhance legal service delivery.
  • Shape and deliver current-awareness initiatives including briefings, newsletters, alerts and thought leadership.
  • Work alongside our BD and PR teams on external content, including contributions to Pinsent Masons' Out-Law platform.
  • Design and deliver engaging training for our lawyers and clients, including bespoke sessions for senior audiences.
  • Build strong relationships with clients through training, briefings, policy and precedent development, horizon scanning and other knowledge initiatives.
  • Contribute to responses to consultations and provide expert analysis on significant legal and policy developments.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues internationally, sharing knowledge, insight and best practice across the wider firm.

What we're looking for

You'll bring strong Employment law expertise together with the commercial awareness and confidence to operate effectively with senior lawyers and clients.

You'll be someone who

  • is technically strong and able to translate complex legal developments into practical, commercially relevant advice and insight;
  • thinks strategically and is interested in how the Employment practice and the wider legal market are evolving;
  • is proactive, curious and comfortable identifying opportunities and turning ideas into action;
  • has strong communication and influencing skills and can build credibility with Partners, senior lawyers and clients;
  • enjoys collaborating with high-performing colleagues across different teams, disciplines and locations;
  • has a genuine interest in innovation, technology and the future delivery of legal services;
  • is highly organised, self-motivated and comfortable taking ownership of projects;
  • has experience of, and enthusiasm for, designing and delivering high-quality training; and
  • demonstrates our values of being approachable, bold and connected.

What we can offer you

You'll join a warm, supportive and highly regarded team where you will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact.

We offer

  • Autonomy and influence to shape initiatives and drive positive change within the practice.
  • Meaningful client exposure, with opportunities to develop relationships with leading organisations.
  • The opportunity to work within a dynamic international Employment practice, collaborating with colleagues across our global network.
  • Exposure to innovation and new approaches to legal service delivery.
  • A strong focus on career development, including regular career conversations, 1:1s, training and development opportunities.
  • A collaborative environment where new ideas are encouraged and you can play an active role in the future development of the practice.
