Marketing Manager
Cawood is the largest independent provider of analytical laboratory testing and sampling services for the land-based industries in the UK. With 15 sites around the country specialising in different types of analysis, we are always looking for skilled and talented individuals to join our teams. This is an exciting time to join Cawood.
The business is growing and there are plenty of opportunities for people who want to work hard, have fun and be part of our success. Job Description: Cawood provides analytical testing and scientific services across the agriculture, animal health and environmental sectors. We are part of Ensign-Bickford Industries (EBI), a family-owned group of science and technology businesses with a long-term approach to creating value.
Our purpose at EBI is to deliver innovation that matters, for today and future generations. We are looking for an experienced, commercially minded Marketing Manager to help Cawood deliver that purpose. This is a significant, broad and hands-on marketing role.
As the dedicated marketing resource within Cawood, you will lead marketing activity across our Agriculture, Animal Health and Environment businesses, developing the strategy and then helping make it happen. You will work directly with the Director of Product and collaborate extensively with commercial leaders, laboratory teams, scientists and technical specialists across Cawood.
You will also be part of the wider One EBI community, collaborating with marketing and creative colleagues across the group, including the Envirologix marketing team and internal graphic design resource, as well as managing specialist external agencies. This is not a role for someone who only wants to manage marketing from a distance.
We are looking for someone who can think strategically, understand technically complex markets, and then roll up their sleeves to deliver. What you will bring We are interested in what you have achieved, not simply the titles you have held. Essential You will have:
- At least 5 years' relevant B2B marketing experience, with evidence of increasing responsibility and impact.
- Experience developing marketing plans and then personally helping to deliver them.
- Evidence of marketing activity that has contributed to measurable commercial outcomes.
- Strong written communication and content-development skills.
- The ability to understand complex or technical subjects and translate them into clear customer propositions.
- Good working knowledge across the marketing mix, including content, digital, email, social, events, campaigns, lead generation and marketing analytics.
- Experience managing agencies, suppliers and marketing budgets.
- Experience working closely with sales, product, commercial or business-development teams.
- Strong project-management skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Confidence working with senior stakeholders and subject-matter experts.
- A data-driven approach to understanding performance and making decisions.
- The independence and initiative required to operate successfully within a lean structure. Highly desirable We would particularly value:
- A degree or professional background in agriculture, biological sciences, chemistry, environmental science, animal science, food science or another relevant scientific discipline.
- Experience within laboratory testing, scientific services, agriculture, animal health, environmental services, food/feed, life sciences, scientific instrumentation or another technical B2B sector.
- Experience marketing technical or professional services, rather than solely physical products.
- Experience of CRM, customer segmentation and marketing automation.
- Experience supporting new product or service launches.
- Experience developing technical thought-leadership content.
- CIM or another recognised professional marketing qualification. We are equally interested in candidates who began their careers in science, agriculture or another relevant technical discipline and subsequently developed a strong track record in marketing. Since then, we have grown rapidly through our strong relationships with customers, our ongoing investment in people and equipment, and the acquisition of businesses that complement or expand our services. This development has allowed us to increase our range of services and extend our reach into global markets. In 2021, Cawood was acquired by US corporation Ensign-Bickford Industries (EBI), becoming a member of its Agriculture and Environmental Diagnostics Group.
