Mid-Weight Product Designer – Design Systems

The Role

As a Mid-Weight Product Designer, you will create intuitive, accessible and high-quality digital products, with a particular focus on mobile app experiences and scalable design systems.

Working within cross-functional teams, you will contribute across the end-to-end product design process, from understanding user and business needs through to defining journeys, developing interaction patterns, prototyping solutions, testing ideas and supporting delivery. You will work closely with senior designers, researchers, product managers, engineers and technologists to turn insight into clear, evidence-led design decisions.

You will bring strong hands-on experience designing for iOS and Android, together with a practical understanding of how design systems improve consistency, accessibility, quality and delivery across products. You will be confident using established systems, creating reusable components and patterns, and contributing to system documentation and governance.

Our practice is formed around three core pillars: Clients, Craft and Culture.

Clients

  • Build an understanding of client objectives, user needs, product goals and the wider market context.
  • Independently deliver high-quality product design work for defined areas of a project.
  • Clearly communicate the rationale behind product, interaction and visual design decisions.
  • Present work to clients and stakeholders, responding constructively to feedback.
  • Participate in workshops, collaborative design sessions and product discussions.
  • Balance user needs, business objectives, platform conventions and technical considerations.

Craft

  • Translate research findings, data and business requirements into meaningful product opportunities.
  • Design end-to-end mobile app experiences, including journeys, task flows, navigation, wireframes, interaction patterns and high-fidelity interfaces.
  • Apply iOS and Android conventions appropriately while maintaining a coherent product experience across platforms.
  • Create responsive, accessible and implementation-ready designs in Figma.
  • Use and extend established design systems to create consistent, scalable experiences.
  • Design reusable components, variants, states and patterns, working closely with engineers to ensure they are feasible and robust.
  • Contribute to design-system documentation, adoption and governance, including guidance on component usage and accessibility.
  • Create interactive prototypes to explore concepts, communicate intent and test assumptions.
  • Plan and support usability testing, using findings to iterate and improve designs.
  • Work closely with researchers, product managers and engineers throughout discovery, design and delivery.
  • Take ownership of defined product areas while seeking guidance when appropriate.
  • Share knowledge, provide constructive feedback and support the development of less-experienced colleagues.

Culture

  • Participate actively in critiques, showcases and studio activities.
  • Contribute to an open, supportive and collaborative design culture.
  • Share useful methods, tools and learning with colleagues.
  • Be receptive to feedback and use it to strengthen your work.
  • Champion inclusive, accessible and user-centred product design.
  • Support colleagues across disciplines when needed.

Key Responsibilities

As a Mid-Weight Product Designer, you will be expected to:

  • Contribute throughout the product design lifecycle, from discovery and problem definition through to design, validation and delivery.
  • Gather and synthesise user, business and technical inputs to develop a clear understanding of the problem.
  • Define user journeys, tasks, flows, navigation and interactions for mobile apps and connected digital experiences.
  • Produce sketches, wireframes, prototypes and detailed user interface designs.
  • Design across iOS and Android, accounting for native behaviours, platform guidelines, device sizes and responsive layouts.
  • Use prototyping to explore ideas, communicate intent and test assumptions.
  • Support or facilitate workshops with users, clients and cross-functional team members.
  • Participate in user research and usability testing, translating findings into product improvements.
  • Use existing design-system components and patterns effectively, identifying where new or improved components are needed.
  • Create and maintain reusable components, variants, tokens and documentation in Figma.
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to review implementation, resolve design details and maintain consistency between design and production.
  • Apply accessibility and inclusive-design principles throughout your work.
  • Explain your work clearly to design colleagues, clients and non-design stakeholders.
  • Manage your own deliverables and priorities within agreed project timelines.
  • Contribute to product and design-system quality through critiques, reviews and collaborative working.

Key Skills and Experience

  • Relevant professional experience in product, UX or interaction design within an agency, consultancy or product organisation.
  • A portfolio demonstrating your contribution to user-centred digital products, including mobile app design.
  • Strong experience designing end-to-end mobile app experiences for iOS, Android or both.
  • A strong understanding of mobile interaction patterns, navigation models, responsive behaviour and platform conventions.
  • Practical experience working with mature design systems and contributing reusable components, patterns or documentation.
  • Strong working knowledge of Figma, including components, variants, variables, libraries and prototyping.
  • Strong understanding of product design, UX design, interaction design and information architecture.
  • Experience creating user journeys, task flows, wireframes, high-fidelity interfaces and interactive prototypes.
  • Experience using research evidence, usability findings, analytics or data to inform design decisions.
  • Experience working collaboratively with researchers, product managers, engineers and other disciplines.
  • Awareness of accessibility standards and inclusive-design practices, including their application to mobile interfaces and components.
  • Ability to communicate design decisions and explain the rationale behind your work.
  • Confidence presenting work and contributing to client or stakeholder conversations.
  • Ability to receive constructive feedback and apply it effectively.
  • Good organisation and time-management skills, with the ability to manage defined areas of work independently.
  • A curious, collaborative and pragmatic approach to solving product problems.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary agile teams.
