Aldermore Group – why we exist

Let us tell you a bit about us

We’re Aldermore – the award-winning bank, trusted and highly rated by over a quarter of a million customers for more than a decade. With our range of specialist mortgages, savings accounts and business finance solutions, we're backing more people to go for it.

We thrive by saying “yes” to our customers. We respect the ingenuity of entrepreneurs and their startups; we give first-timers a leg-up onto the property ladder; we open up the lending market to many; and thousands of customers chose Motonovo Finance every week to buy their next car, van or motorbike.

This is where you come in. We are on a journey. A journey defined by a destination; to deliver on our purpose.

Let us tell you a bit about the opportunity

This is an exciting opportunity to join Aldermore’s Working Capital Solutions team as a Portfolio Manager, taking ownership of the risk management of a significant portfolio of Invoice Finance and Asset Based Lending customers.

You’ll be at the heart of some of our most important risk decisions. From overseeing £1m+ annual reviews and contributing to £10m+ credit papers, to identifying emerging risks and shaping Watch strategies, you’ll use your judgement to manage and escalate risk while supporting sustainable growth.

It’s a role with real influence. You’ll work closely with Relationship Managers, our offshore Credit Stewardship team and second-line risk colleagues, providing clear direction and constructive challenge when it matters most. You’ll also analyse portfolio performance and wider market trends, turning insight into action and helping us manage risk proactively.

If you enjoy combining risk expertise, independent judgement and strong stakeholder relationships to make a tangible difference, this could be the role for you.

What will your day look like?

  • Own portfolio risk: Oversee the in-life performance and credit risk of the portfolio, spotting emerging issues and taking proportionate action early.
  • Oversee annual reviews: Review and sign off £1m+ annual review papers, challenging analysis and making sure risks are clearly understood.
  • Support significant credit decisions: Write and contribute to £10m+ credit papers for Large Transaction Committee submission, providing clear analysis, recommendations and monitoring requirements.
  • Make informed risk decisions: Act as a key onshore decision-maker for monitoring and review outcomes escalated by our offshore Credit Stewardship team.
  • Manage Watch strategies: Identify deteriorating performance, determine appropriate Watch strategies and oversee Watch 1 cases to help minimise potential losses.
  • Partner with Relationship Managers: Share risk insight and constructive challenge while maintaining clear accountability between credit risk and customer relationship ownership.
  • Use insight to stay ahead: Analyse MI, market events, sector trends and portfolio-level risks, translating your findings into practical actions and senior reporting.

What do we expect from you?

Based on the responsibilities defined in the role profile, we’re keeping the entry requirements focused on what someone needs to succeed rather than adding qualifications or arbitrary experience thresholds that the JD does not specify.

  • Strong Invoice FInance and Asset Based Lending knowledge, a strong risk mindset and the confidence to apply sound judgement to complex lending situations.
  • Experience reviewing and analysing credit performance, with the ability to identify emerging risks and determine appropriate actions.
  • The ability to assess detailed credit information and communicate risks, mitigants and recommendations clearly.
  • Confidence making decisions and providing constructive challenge when dealing with complex or deteriorating credit situations.
  • Strong stakeholder skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across relationship management, credit and risk teams.
  • An analytical mindset, with the ability to use MI, sector trends and wider market information to understand portfolio risk.
  • Clear communication skills and the confidence to discuss risk-related matters with colleagues, senior stakeholders and customers when required.

What can you expect from us?

  • A hybrid working policy, 2 days per week onsite in one of our offices
  • A friendly and flexible culture, the same as how we work with our customers.
  • A growing organisation that means there’s lots of opportunities to progress
  • A drive for continuous improvement, which you will be empowered to get behind from day one.
  • And of course, you will be rewarded competitively, with a good range of core benefits and bonus potential.

Still curious?

Join us and we’ll make the same promises to you as a colleague, as we do to each of our customers. We’re committed to building a working environment that values respect, diversity, and compassion. We welcome people regardless of age, disability, gender identity, marital status, race, faith or belief, sexual orientation, socioeconomic background, and whether you’re pregnant or on family leave.

Please note that we have a thorough referencing process, which includes criminal record checks.
