Job Introduction

Handelsbanken combines a long-established relationship banking model with secure, resilient, and customer-focused technology. Our technology teams enable the Bank’s decentralised way of working, delivering systems built for stability, trust, and long-term value.

We are on a multi-year technology and digital transformation journey to enhance customer experience and improve how colleagues work together. By modernising platforms, simplifying processes, and better connecting data and systems, we help relationship teams focus on customers and less on complexity.

Our decentralised culture extends to technology. Teams are trusted to take ownership, make informed decisions, and deliver sustainable, high-quality solutions. We value engineering excellence, pragmatic problem-solving, and strong collaboration across technology, business, and risk.

We offer technologists the opportunity to build lasting careers, deepen their expertise, and contribute to meaningful change. We look for people who care about quality, security, long-term impact, and who want to shape the future of a relationship-led bank.

We also recognise that flexibility can support people to perform at their best, and that it looks different for everyone. While arrangements will depend on the requirements of the role and the needs of the business, we are open to having a conversation around what flexibility could look like for you.

The opportunity

We are looking for a highly experienced Principal Information Security Consultant to join our Information Security team. This is a senior technical leadership role focused on strengthening secure design and threat modelling practices across our embedded security consulting function and supporting a large portfolio of change initiatives across the bank.

The portfolio is characterised by large-scale, multi-year, multi-phase transformation programmes. You will work closely with a team of embedded security consultants who are distributed across a wide range of workstreams, helping them navigate complex technical challenges, providing specialist expertise, and supporting the development of secure solutions at scale.

This role requires deep technical knowledge, strong analytical skills, and the ability to work across a diverse range of technologies, architectures, and delivery models. You will be a key source of expertise for security consultants, engineers, architects, and product teams, helping them address complex security challenges and make informed security decisions throughout the change lifecycle.

This is a senior technical leadership role focused on expertise, collaboration and capability building. You will provide specialist support on threat modelling, secure solution design and complex security challenges across the change portfolio. Working closely with embedded security consultants, architects and engineers, you will help teams understand security considerations, evaluate design options and develop pragmatic solutions that enable delivery while managing security risks appropriately.

You will be expected to bring strong expertise across multiple information security domains, including application security, cloud security, infrastructure security, and threat modelling. You will help build capability across the consulting team by sharing knowledge, developing approaches and patterns, and fostering a culture of continuous learning.

If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges, collaborating with a broad range of stakeholders, and helping teams build secure technology solutions, this is an exciting opportunity to make a significant impact across the organisation.

Key responsibilities

  • Threat Modelling - You will support and facilitate threat modelling activities across a diverse portfolio of projects and programmes. You will help consultants and technology teams identify threats, understand attack scenarios, evaluate mitigating controls, and incorporate security thinking into solution design from the earliest stages of delivery.
  • Capability Building - You will help develop the technical capability of the embedded security consulting community through coaching, mentoring, knowledge sharing, and the creation of reusable approaches, frameworks, and guidance materials. You will champion security best practices and help elevate technical security expertise across the team.
  • Problem Solving - You will support consultants and delivery teams in addressing complex information security challenges. This may include application security concerns, cloud security considerations, identity and access management issues, data protection requirements, emerging technologies, and technical risk mitigation strategies.
  • Subject Matter Expertise - You will maintain deep knowledge across relevant information security domains, industry standards, emerging threats, and security technologies. You will contribute specialist expertise to strategic initiatives, help shape approaches to threat modelling and secure design, and support the continual evolution of the bank's security capability.
