Summary

The Python Developer will be responsible for designing, developing, testing, and maintaining scalable software applications and backend systems using Python. The role involves working closely with cross-functional teams to develop efficient, secure, and reliable solutions that meet business and technical requirements. A strong understanding of Python programming, backend development, databases, and modern software development practices is essential. The successful candidate will contribute to the full software development lifecycle and ensure the delivery of high-quality applications.

Roles and Responsibilities

• Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyse business and technical requirements.
• Design, develop, test, and maintain applications using Python.
• Develop and maintain backend services, APIs, and application components.
• Build and integrate RESTful APIs and web services.
• Work with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, and MongoDB.
• Develop scalable and efficient code following software development best practices.
• Integrate third-party services, applications, and external APIs.
• Perform debugging, troubleshooting, and resolve application issues.
• Write unit tests and participate in code reviews to ensure code quality.
• Work with version control systems such as Git.
• Collaborate with frontend developers, data engineers, and other technical teams.
• Contribute to system architecture and technical design discussions.
• Deploy and maintain applications in cloud environments.
• Maintain technical documentation and stay up to date with emerging Python technologies and industry trends.

Qualifications and Experience

• A bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of experience in Python development or software engineering.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming and object-oriented programming concepts.
• Experience with Python frameworks such as Django, Flask, or FastAPI.
• Strong understanding of RESTful APIs and web services.
• Experience working with databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, or MongoDB.
• Familiarity with frontend technologies such as HTML, CSS, and JavaScript is a plus.
• Experience with version control systems such as Git.
• Understanding of software testing frameworks such as PyTest or Unittest.
• Knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud is a plus.
• Familiarity with Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines is an advantage.
• Understanding of Agile development methodologies and software development lifecycle.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
• Experience working in the UK Public Sector is a plus.
