Quality Engineer

Sizewell C is entering an exciting phase of growth as we mature into an independent organisation and continue building one of the UK’s largest and most important energy projects. We are now recruiting the below position:

Position: Quality Engineer - Inspection

Location: Bristol preferred; however, applications are welcome from candidates based near our offices in London, Bristol, Manchester, Leiston, Ipswich or Gloucester. Hybrid working minimum 3-2 days in office per week.

Contract: Permanent, full time.

Salary: Starting from £56,506 depending on experience  

Benefits include: 

• Annual Leave: 28 days per annum, increasing to 30 days after 5 years of service, plus bank holidays

About the Role:

As a Quality Engineer within the Inspection Team, you'll play a key role in ensuring compliance with quality management arrangements across all inspection and surveillance activities at Sizewell C. Working within the PDO (Project Delivery Organisation) Quality function, you'll help define and deploy nuclear industry and major project quality best practices, supporting one of the UK's most significant infrastructure projects.

You'll be responsible for supporting the consistent delivery of manufacturing surveillance activities, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently and right first time. Working closely with Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs), you'll help support compliance with Nuclear Site Licence Conditions, drive the effective implementation of surveillance requirements across the organisation and supply chain, monitor performance, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives that support the wider Quality Strategy and Sizewell C project goals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Ensure compliance with the manufacturing surveillance model, covering the preparation, execution and modulation of surveillance activities for equipment and components manufactured off-site.
• Perform monthly compliance checks against the Manufacturing Surveillance procedure, covering all process steps across a range of PDO contracts.
• Review the effectiveness of the manufacturing surveillance model, identifying and implementing improvements where required.
• Develop and enhance key performance indicators (KPIs), providing greater visibility of performance, analysing trends and reporting opportunities for improvement.
• Prepare and coordinate the monthly SZC Manufacturing Steering Committee.
• Resolve issues relating to the implementation of manufacturing surveillance, driving improvements and supporting others in their resolution activities.
• Deliver training on manufacturing surveillance processes to key users.
• Interface with key stakeholders, including DQPI, UKMS, PDO Multi-Disciplinary Teams (MDTs) and the PDO Quality Department.
• Support quality audits across the Delivery Organisation.
• Collaborate with other functions within the PDO Quality Department to ensure the effective and consistent delivery of responsibilities.

Desirable

• Knowledge of inspection practices in the nuclear industry.
• A team player who understands quality processes in major projects across engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning.
• Knowledge of improvement methodologies, tools & techniques e.g. Lean, 6-Sigma and the ability and knowledge to be able to optimise processes.
• Experience in ensuring compliance with National and International standards such as IAEA GSR2 and ISO 9001/19443 and an understanding of Nuclear Site Licence conditions.
• The ability to effectively implement quality management arrangements.

Qualifications & Experience:

• Educated to HNC/HND qualification level in an engineering/technical discipline
• Experience in large project environments, preferably in the nuclear or highly regulated industry, with significant focus on quality management.
• Knowledge and experience of a manufacturing/operations environment.
• Chartered member of CQI (Or working towards)

Desirable

• Experience working in an inspection team in a manufacturing facility, preferably in the nuclear or highly regulated industry.
• Experience in a quality management role.
• Strong capability in the analysis data, producing reports and making recommendations to support decision making.
• Experience engaging with regulators, such as the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR).
• Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies, tools and techniques, such as Lean Six Sigma.
