Regional Director North and Midlands - Sustainable Places
We’re looking for a senior industry leader with a passion for placemaking and with a strong background in sustainable development planning and transport strategy to lead and grow ITP’s regional presence in the North and Midlands. This is an opportunity to shape our regional business, develop talented transport planners and engineers, and help clients create more sustainable, connected and successful places.
Where you will work
At Haskoning, you will join an independent, employee-owned international consultancy that combines engineering, design, and consultancy services with software and technology. Our mission, “Enhancing Society Together,” drives us to create a positive impact on the world. We offer purpose-driven and challenging work on diverse projects, leveraging our 140+ years of expertise. With over 6,800 employees in more than 25 countries, we work together to turn challenges into opportunities and make a real impact on society.
With over 700 colleagues, working across multiple offices, we have a strong presence in the United Kingdom. Our people are at the forefront of delivering sustainable and future-ready solutions for both the built and natural environment. Our multidisciplinary teams collaborate closely with clients and partners to create positive change for communities and the environment.
As a Haskoning colleague, you will have the opportunity to contribute to projects that make a real difference, supported by a culture that values expertise, innovation, and personal growth. More information about working for Haskoning in the UK is available here.
As a member of the Integrated Transport Planning (ITP) team within Haskoning, you will work alongside skilled professionals united by a shared passion for vision‑led transport planning, designing sustainable mobility solutions that meet people’s needs and help shape places that reflect the unique character of their local context.
What you will do as Regional Director
You will provide visible leadership across one of our Birmingham, Manchester or Leeds offices while working closely with colleagues across ITP and the wider Haskoning business. You will be accountable for building a strong regional market position, converting opportunities into profitable work, maintaining excellent standards of delivery and creating an environment in which people can thrive. This includes:
- Leading the development and delivery of a clear regional growth plan for sustainable development planning, focused on priority clients, markets and opportunities that align with ITP’s vision-led approach to transport planning and placemaking.
- Building senior relationships with private and public sector clients, originating work, leading strategic bids and representing ITP and Haskoning confidently in the regional market.
- Providing executive oversight of a varied project portfolio, ensuring commissions are well directed, commercially sound and delivered to the quality expected by our clients.
- Leading, inspiring and developing colleagues based in the region, supporting recruitment, succession, collaboration and a positive, inclusive office culture.
- Contributing to the leadership of ITP, working with Team Leaders and senior colleagues across Haskoning to connect regional opportunities with the right technical expertise and multidisciplinary capability.
What we expect from you
You will be an industry-leading transport planner with the domain knowledge and technical expertise who combines commercial judgement, technical credibility and a collaborative leadership style. You will be comfortable setting direction, empowering others and maintaining trusted relationships at senior level, while remaining close enough to our work to assure its quality and relevance. We would anticipate you bringing:
- A substantial consultancy track record in sustainable development planning, mobility, infrastructure or placemaking, including responsibility for winning and delivering complex commissions for private and/or public sector clients.
- A commitment to vision-led transport planning principles, combined with a sound understanding of development planning and built environment transport planning techniques
- Demonstrable experience of developing client accounts and market opportunities, shaping compelling propositions and converting a healthy pipeline into sustainable, profitable growth.
- Leadership experience that includes managing and developing people, building effective teams and contributing credibly to senior business decisions.
- Strong commercial and project governance capability, with experience of overseeing portfolio performance, managing risk and maintaining high standards of client service and technical quality.
- A relevant degree and recognised professional qualification, such as TPP, CEng or an equivalent chartered status, together with an established regional network and a commitment to thought leadership and professional practice.
