Research Assistant (Fixed-Term, Part-time, Internal only)

Licensed sponsor UK Other Posted 2 days ago

This vacancy is open to employees of the University of Nottingham only

The University of Nottingham is looking to appoint a Research Assistant to support the ROSSINI study. The ROSSINI study is the largest surgical trial in the UK. Its aim is to evaluate key surgical interventions to prevent wound (surgical site) infections. Measuring the primary trial outcome, wound infection, will be completed using digital wound monitoring.

This is a novel approach where patients take photos and provide information about their wounds in response to text message requests. Understanding the implementation of digital wound monitoring is key to its successful uptake and delivery as this is unique to each NHS Trust and is influenced by many factors including organisational culture and local practices.

You will work with project leads, Professor Judith Tanner and Professor Stephen Timmons in collaboration with Melissa Rochon (Guy’s and St Thomas’ NHS Foundation Trust), to explore the implementation and adoption of digital surgical wound monitoring. This is a qualitative social science study.

The implementation of digital wound monitoring at hospital sites in England will be explored at a pre- or early-stage implementation and a later post-implementation phase. In both phases, the post holder will remotely interview key stakeholders from each site, including (but not limited to) clinicians, IT staff, managers and patients.

ROSSINI presents a unique opportunity to study implementation of the same technology at different sites, all of which will have their own structures and cultures. The precise number of study sites will depend on the timescale for implementation at the various sites, but we intend to sample as diverse a group of hospitals as we can construct.

Data will be analysed using framework analysis; the Consolidated Framework for Implementation Research. Based on what we learn, we will produce implementation guidance which will enable future users of digital wound monitoring to implement this technology quickly and easily.

You will have excellent communication skills and some experience of undertaking qualitative data collection and analysis. A background in healthcare, social science or implementation science is desirable.
