Are you experienced in handling and negotiating complex, high-value liability claims? Can you lead and support a team while overseeing challenging insurance claims and deputising for senior management when required?   If so, then we would like to hear from you.

About the Role

As a Senior Claims Negotiator, you will support the delivery of a high-quality claims service by independently investigating, assessing, negotiating and settling liability and material damage claims within delegated authority levels and insurance deductibles.

Assist with the handling of complex, high-value property damage and personal injury claims, liaising with insurers where claims exceed policy limits to protect the Council's financial and reputational interests.

Provide support in managing legacy and insolvency-related claims, including long-tail and complex cases, while contributing to the oversight of legal service providers and independent experts to ensure effective service delivery and value for money.

About You

To apply for this post, you must be able to evidence in your application how you meet the following criteria:

  •     NVQ Level 4, or ACII qualification, or CII Certificate in Insurance with extensive relevant experience.
  •     Experience of handling and managing potentially high value and complex claims. Managing the litigation process, particularly in respect of a casualty portfolio.
  •     Demonstrable experience of fostering and maintaining good working relationships with Senior Management Teams, Heads of Service, departmental managers and their teams, other organisations, insurance companies, loss adjusters, specialist experts, solicitors and barristers.
  •     Experience of managing or effectively monitoring the work of others, ensuring that standards of quality and time management are met.
  •     Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of current legal procedures and case law relevant to the handling of legal liability claims.
  •     In depth technical knowledge of liability claims handling along with knowledge of other classes of business such as motor, own property damage and travel.
  •     Ability to explain complex information in a patient, clear and concise manner, ensuring that it is fully understood by recipients at all levels
