The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Senior Data Analyst to join the Robert Walters Workforce Consultancy Programme, working with a leading organisation within the Financial Services sector.

This is an exciting opportunity for a commercially minded, technically strong data specialist who can combine advanced SQL skills with business understanding and innovative thinking. You will work closely with business stakeholders to uncover opportunities, solve operational challenges and turn complex datasets into meaningful insights and practical solutions.

The focus is on making better use of existing data, applications and analytical capabilities to improve decision-making, strengthen controls and streamline business processes. This is a hands-on, business-facing role rather than a traditional data engineering position.

Key Responsibilities

• Work with business stakeholders to understand operational challenges and identify opportunities for data-driven improvements.
• Use advanced SQL to interrogate, combine and analyse complex datasets across customer, account, portfolio, holdings, transaction and reference data.
• Navigate complex relational data models and understand relationships between business processes, applications and underlying data.
• Develop prototypes and analytical solutions to test ideas, demonstrate value and support better business decisions.
• Identify opportunities to automate manual analysis, improve controls and reduce duplicated work.
• Challenge existing approaches and recommend simpler, more effective ways of working based on evidence and insight.
• Produce reliable, repeatable and well-documented analytical outputs.
• Work hands-on with Microsoft SQL Server and Snowflake, supporting the organisation's transition towards Snowflake as a strategic data consumption platform.
• Communicate findings clearly to business and technical stakeholders, translating complex data into actionable recommendations.
• Collaborate with Technology, Data and application teams where analytical solutions require further implementation.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Strong hands-on SQL skills, with the ability to independently analyse large, complex datasets.
• Extensive experience understanding and working with complex relational data models, business keys, hierarchies and cross-system relationships.
• Practical experience using both Microsoft SQL Server and Snowflake.
• A strong business analysis mindset, with the ability to understand operational processes, controls and commercial objectives.
• Proven experience identifying opportunities for improvement and turning analytical findings into practical business solutions.
• A proactive, innovative approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to challenge established processes.
• Strong understanding of data quality, reconciliation, documentation and analytical controls.
• Excellent stakeholder engagement and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical findings in clear business language.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within Wealth Management, Asset Management, Banking or the wider Financial Services sector.
• Experience using Power BI or similar visualisation tools.
• Experience working with customer, portfolio, holdings, account or transaction data.
• A track record of developing analytical prototypes and improving existing business applications or processes.
