Contract Opportunity | Robert Walters Workforce Consultancy Programme
The Opportunity
We are seeking an experienced Senior Data Analyst to support a financial services organisation in analysing complex client and transaction data, identifying unusual patterns and strengthening financial crime monitoring.
This is a hands-on, business-facing analytical role suited to someone who enjoys investigating data, solving complex problems and turning large volumes of information into actionable business insights.
Working with a sophisticated data warehouse, you will use advanced SQL to explore relationships across client, account and transaction data, identify potential risks and develop repeatable analytical outputs and reporting solutions.
The organisation is also progressing its transition from SQL Server towards Snowflake, creating opportunities to contribute to the development of modern data products and improved analytical capabilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Use advanced SQL to investigate large and complex datasets across client, account, payment and transaction information.
- Identify unusual transaction patterns, anomalies, data gaps and potential financial crime risks.
- Support transaction monitoring and financial crime analytics by translating business and compliance requirements into clear analytical logic.
- Navigate complex relational data models and bring together information from multiple systems.
- Develop repeatable reports and analytical outputs to improve risk oversight, monitoring and decision-making.
- Validate data quality, reconcile findings against source systems and document assumptions and limitations.
- Communicate findings clearly to business, risk and compliance stakeholders, explaining the evidence and recommended actions.
- Support the evolution of data consumption from SQL Server to Snowflake, contributing ideas to improve analytical processes and data products.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Strong hands-on SQL skills, including complex joins, CTEs, window functions and querying large datasets.
- Experience working with complex relational databases or enterprise data warehouse environments.
- Demonstrable analytical and investigative skills, with the ability to identify patterns, anomalies and discrepancies in data.
- Experience analysing client, customer, account or transaction data within a complex business environment.
- Strong data quality, reconciliation and validation capabilities.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate technical findings into meaningful business insights.
- A proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to investigate ambiguous questions and drive work forward independently.
Desirable Experience
- Financial Crime, Anti-Money Laundering (AML) or transaction monitoring experience.
- Previous experience within banking, wealth management, investments or broader Financial Services.
- Hands-on experience with Snowflake, particularly developing analytical outputs or data products.
- Exposure to Snowflake Cortex or modern data analytics capabilities.
- Experience transitioning analytical workloads from SQL Server to Snowflake.
