As part of this continued and ambitious growth, we are looking to appoint a Senior Geotechnical Engineer to join our team in either Edinburgh or Glasgow. This is an exciting opportunity to work on a diverse portfolio of land development and infrastructure projects, supporting clients across both the public and private sectors.

Our Ground Engineering team combines expertise in geotechnical engineering, engineering geology and geoenvironmental consulting to help clients understand and manage ground-related risks, develop practical engineering solutions and deliver successful projects.

About The Role

As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer, you will support the delivery of a growing portfolio of land development and infrastructure projects throughout Scotland. Working closely with multidisciplinary teams, you will be responsible for delivering ground investigation and geotechnical design services from project inception through to completion.

Your Responsibilities Will Include

  • Planning and managing geotechnical ground investigations and surveys.
  • Developing ground investigation scopes, specifications and schedules.
  • Reviewing and interpreting geological mapping, ground investigation data, borehole logs, trial pits and laboratory testing.
  • Developing robust ground models and geological interpretations.
  • Undertaking geotechnical analysis and design using industry-standard software.
  • Carrying out geotechnical assessments and providing practical engineering recommendations.
  • Preparing high-quality technical reports and specifications, including Geotechnical Design Reports (GDRs).
  • Identifying and managing ground-related risks as part of multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Liaising with clients, contractors, drilling contractors and other external stakeholders.
  • Supporting and mentoring junior geotechnical professionals.

As part of Stantec’s Ground Engineering team, your expertise will directly influence the successful delivery of major development and infrastructure projects across Scotland.

You will play a key role in helping clients understand complex ground conditions, manage geotechnical risks and develop sustainable engineering solutions. Working alongside civil engineers, structural engineers, environmental specialists and technical experts, you'll contribute to projects that help shape communities, improve infrastructure and create lasting value for our clients.

This role offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise across a broad range of projects while helping to grow and strengthen our Ground Engineering presence in Scotland.

About You

We're looking for an experienced Geotechnical Engineer with a strong background in geology, ground investigation and geotechnical design.

You Will Ideally Have

  • A Master's degree in Geology, Engineering Geology, Geotechnical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Significant professional experience within geotechnical engineering, engineering geology or geological investigation.
  • Strong understanding of UK geology and geotechnical principles.
  • Experience planning, supervising and interpreting geological and geotechnical ground investigations.
  • Experience interpreting geological and ground investigation data and developing ground models.
  • Knowledge of geotechnical principles, ground conditions and the engineering behaviour of soils and rocks.
  • Experience undertaking earthworks monitoring and supervision.
  • Experience working on sites affected by historical mining, including undertaking Coal Mining Risk Assessments and liaising with the Mining Remediation Authority.
  • Experience producing technical reports including Ground Investigation Reports, Geotechnical Design Reports, Geotechnical Feedback Reports and Technical Notes.
  • Proficiency with industry-standard software including Oasys Pile, ALP PDisp, Rocscience Slide, GEO5 Retaining Wall, AutoCAD and Excel.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Chartered status, or a clear commitment towards achieving professional chartership, would be advantageous.
