Senior Integration Engineer
Job description:
INTRODUCTION
At Burberry, we believe creativity opens spaces. Our purpose is to unlock the power of imagination to push boundaries and open new possibilities for our people, our customers and our communities. This is the core belief that has guided Burberry since it was founded in 1856 and is central to how we operate as a company today.
We aim to provide an environment for creative minds from different backgrounds to thrive, bringing a wide range of skills and experiences to everything we do. As a purposeful, values-driven brand, we are committed to being a force for good in the world as well, creating the next generation of sustainable luxury for customers, driving industry change and championing our communities.
JOB PURPOSE
Accountable for engineering and maintaining the shared integration platform capabilities (iPaaS administration, API gateway management, event-driven infrastructure, integration pattern libraries, monitoring and reusable connector development) that underpin Burberry's ability to connect its technology estate reliably and at pace.
Works alongside the Senior Solution Architect, Integration (who owns integration architecture, standards and design assurance) to ensure a clean separation between architectural direction and engineering execution.
As a new role within the Architecture function, the Integration Engineer carries foundational responsibility: establishing engineering practices, platform services and reusable components from the ground up, building internally owned integration engineering capability alongside partner resources.
Please note that this role requires you to be based in our Central London office four days a week RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build, maintain and operate the shared integration platform services that domain-aligned, platform and programme teams consume to deliver integrations across Burberry's technology estate.
- Develop and maintain reusable integration components, connector libraries and pattern implementations that accelerate delivery team adoption, reduce duplication and enforce consistency across the portfolio.
- Own the day-to-day operational health of the integration platform, including performance monitoring, incident response, capacity management and platform upgrades, ensuring availability and reliability at the
volume of concurrent change across the portfolio.
- Translate integration architecture standards, design patterns and guardrails (set by the Senior Solution Architect, Integration) into engineered platform capabilities and reusable assets, maintaining a clean boundary between architectural direction and engineering execution.
- Enable domain-aligned Product teams and Programme teams to consume the integration platform for their own integrations, providing hands-on enablement, technical guidance and pattern compliance support without becoming a delivery bottleneck.
- Collaborate with Agentic AI Engineers to ensure the integration platform supports agent-to-system connectivity, including integration standards and patterns (e.g. MCP, direct tool access) that enable agents to consume enterprise systems through the governed integration layer.
- Partner with Enterprise Security Architects to embed security-by-design into the integration platform: API security, data-in-transit protection, access control and compliance with enterprise security standards.
- Establish and maintain comprehensive documentation of integration platform architecture, reusable components, pattern libraries, operational runbooks and engineering standards to support knowledge retention and capability transfer.
- Continuously evaluate integration tooling, frameworks and patterns in market; recommend platform evolution, where justified, by delivery team need or technology maturity.
PERSONAL PROFILE
- Experience in integration engineering, middleware engineering or platform engineering, with hands-on experience building, operating and maintaining enterprise integration platforms within complex, multi-system environments.
- Proficient in enterprise iPaaS and integration tooling, with practical experience of one or more of: SAP BTP / Integration Suite, MuleSoft, Boomi, Informatica or equivalent. Hands-on experience with API management platforms (e.g. Apigee, Azure API Management, Kong).
- Strong event-driven and messaging experience, including Apache Kafka, Azure Service Bus or equivalent, with practical understanding of event-driven architecture patterns, pub/sub, CQRS and event sourcing.
- Solid understanding of enterprise integration patterns (EAI, ESB, API-led connectivity, canonical data models, orchestration vs. choreography) with the ability to translate architectural standards into engineered platform capabilities and reusable components.
- Practical experience of API security, OAuth 2.0 / OpenID Connect, mutual TLS, data-in-transit protection and access control as applied to integration platforms, with the ability to embed security into platform services by design.
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines for integration deployment, Infrastructure-as-Code (Terraform, Bicep or equivalent) and integration monitoring/observability tooling.
- Collaborative and effective working across multiple teams within a cross-functional operating model where the integration platform serves as shared infrastructure. Proven ability to enable other teams without centralising delivery.
- Comfortable in a foundational environment where integration engineering practices, reusable assets and
platform services need to be established from scratch, with the maturity to balance pace of delivery against sustainable, well-documented engineering foundations.
- Detail-oriented with a commitment to documentation, reusable asset development, knowledge sharing and engineering consistency.
