What you will do as a Consultant

You will join our Birmingham team, working alongside skilled professionals united by a shared passion for vision-led transport planning, designing sustainable mobility solutions that meet people’s needs and help shape places that reflect the unique character of their local context. This includes:

  • Helping clients to plan, design and deliver active and sustainable new communities where walking, cycling and public transport mobility outcomes are prioritised.
  • Following vision-led transport planning and placemaking principles; applying them to sound understanding of development planning/built environment transport planning techniques.
  • Understanding and applying transport modelling methodologies in a way that proportionately balances future travel patterns and trip numbers with real-world awareness of the individual, and collective, user needs that drive travel demand.
  • Providing assured and experienced transport planning input to planning applications, guided by detailed knowledge of spatial planning legislation and sustainable development practices.
  • Working with clients and design teams (Architects, Planners, Urban Designers, Landscape Architects, Environmental specialists, and other disciplines) to provide transport, access, and movement inputs to first imagine and then secure the planning consents needed to deliver places where they would be proud to live.

What we expect from you

You will be an enthusiastic individual with some specialist knowledge of transport for development. Importantly, you should have experience of supporting the delivery of Transport Assessments, Transport Statements, and Travel Plans to support planning applications and other transport related projects. We would anticipate you bringing:

  • A proven track record of delivering transport planning advice for planning applications and building trusted relationships with clients and project teams.
  • Experience of delivering successful projects across sectors such as Care, Education, Health, Leisure, Warehousing/Distribution, Residential and mixed-use.
  • Robust technical skills in development-related transport planning, including the review / analysis of extensive datasets, multimodal trip attraction / generation analysis, traffic impact assessments / modelling, preparation of designs using CAD, accessibility and connectivity analysis, and awareness / understanding of post-consent requirements.
  • Knowledge of relevant transport design guidance (e.g. DMRB, Manual for Streets, and active travel design standards) to inform prevailing streetscape design / masterplanning advice.
  • Excellent report‑writing skills, with the ability to convey complex findings clearly.
  • The ability to work effectively within a project team and to deliver projects to scope and budget.
  • Excellent interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
