Trainee/Qualified Biomedical Scientist

Licensed sponsor Shrewsbury Full-time Posted 5 hours ago

Job Overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist to join our friendly and supportive Cellular Pathology team at The Royal Shrewsbury Hospital (RSH).

We welcome applications from experienced Biomedical Scientists, although a trainee position will also be considered for candidates who are nearing completion of their IBMS Registration Portfolio or who can demonstrate a commitment to achieving HCPC registration within an agreed timeframe.

This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career within a busy and progressive department, supporting the delivery of a high-quality diagnostic service for patients across Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin.

This is a permanent post in cellular pathology. Staff may be required to work at our alternative site, The Robert Jones and Agnes Hunt Hospital, Oswestry.

Main duties of the job

  • Assist in the provision of a diagnostic service.
  • Perform competently a range of laboratory techniques and procedures in one or more section(s) of the Cellular Pathology either singly, or as part of a team, that equate to the training and level of responsibility of a Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) registered BMS.
  • Supervise support workers, students and other untrained or unqualified staff in the performance of tests according to standard operating procedures.

Working for your organisation

Our Poppy’s Promise Commitment

We believe that compassionate care sits at the heart of everything we do. Every member of our team — clinical or non-clinical — plays a vital role in ensuring that patients, families, and colleagues are treated with dignity, empathy, and respect at all times.

We expect all staff to demonstrate compassion not only through their words, but through their actions: by listening attentively, communicating clearly and kindly, and recognising individual needs, feelings, and circumstances of those in our care.

Effective communication is central to safe and high-quality healthcare. We value colleagues who take the time to understand others, explain information in a meaningful way, and respond to concerns with patience and understanding.

By joining our team, you are committing to uphold these values — ensuring that every patient feels heard, respected, and valued, and that compassion is embedded in every interaction, every day.
