- Supporting the planning of menus, refreshments and mealtime activities, while managing supplies, stock and portion control.
- Catering for individual dietary requirements, including allergies, fortified diets, texture-modified meals and other specialist nutritional needs.
- Contributing to admissions and reviews, ensuring dietary preferences, allergies, texture-modified diets and cultural or religious requirements are identified and communicated.
- Leading, supervising and developing the catering team at Avon View, providing clear direction and support while creating a positive and inclusive working environment and ensuring consistently high standards of catering provision.
- Supporting staff development by ensuring mandatory training and competency requirements are maintained.
- Managing the day-to-day catering operation, including stock, ordering, budgets, equipment and the effective use of resources.
- Maintaining high standards of food safety, HACCP, hygiene and health and safety, including assessing and managing risks within the kitchen environment.
- Working closely with the people we support, their families, care colleagues and other professionals to ensure nutrition, hydration, dignity, choice and wellbeing remain at the heart of the catering service.
- Listening to feedback and continually looking for ways to improve menus, mealtimes and the overall dining experience.
- Maintaining accurate records and working in line with safeguarding and GDPR requirements.
- Deputising for the Executive Catering Manager when required, helping to support catering provision across the wider organisation.
What we’re looking for:
The successful candidate will have

- Good experience of working in a catering or kitchen environment, including food preparation, service and food hygiene, with experience in a care or care-related setting.
- Good knowledge of food safety, HACCP, COSHH, allergens, specialist dietary requirements and health and safety within a kitchen environment.
- Experience of supervising, motivating and developing staff, with the ability to organise and prioritise the work of a busy catering team.
- The ability to plan menus and cater for individual dietary requirements, including allergies, fortified diets and texture-modified meals.
- A good understanding of person-centred care and the importance of nutrition, hydration, dignity, choice, independence and positive mealtime experiences.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with the people we support, families, colleagues and health or care professionals.
- The ability to assess and manage risk and maintain accurate written and electronic records.
- An organised and flexible approach, with the confidence to use your initiative, respond to changing needs and contribute to improvements within the catering service.
- Good basic IT skills and the ability to use relevant systems for record keeping, monitoring and communication.
Above all, we’re looking for someone who takes pride in the food they serve, enjoys leading and developing a team, and understands the difference a positive mealtime experience can make to someone’s day.
