Finance and Billing Manager

Are you an experienced finance professional who enjoys bringing clarity, structure and momentum to a busy project environment?

At Domainex, our scientific teams deliver complex projects for customers across the life sciences sector. We are looking for a confident and highly organised Part-Time Project Finance & Billing Manager to connect project delivery with accurate billing, revenue reporting and cash collection to work in our state of the art building in Pampisford, just outside Cambridge.

This is an important, hands-on position at the heart of the business. You will work closely with our scientific project leads, finance team and wider organisation to make sure project progress is captured accurately, customers are invoiced promptly and month-end revenue information is complete and reliable.

What you’ll be doing

You will

• Monitor project progress, including project starts, billable milestones, scope changes, delays and completions.
• Review contracts, statements of work, approved variations, customer purchase orders and payment terms.
• Coordinate accurate billing instructions and help resolve missing information or invoice queries.
• Identify completed work and achieved milestones that have not yet been billed.
• Monitor aged receivables and follow up overdue customer invoices.
• Support the resolution of invoice disputes and collection risks.
• Maintain an accurate order book covering confirmed work, project changes, progress, cancellations and remaining contracted value.
• Make sure rechargeable consumables and other project costs are recorded and billed correctly.
• Prepare project-level revenue schedules and calculate accrued and deferred revenue.
• Support month-end reconciliations, journals and management reporting.
• Provide clear updates to senior leadership on billing, collections, order book movements and revenue risks.
• Help improve the systems and processes supporting project tracking, billing and reporting.

About you

You may already be working in project finance, revenue accounting, management accounting or another commercially focused finance role within a project-based services business.

You will bring

• A sound understanding of accrued and deferred revenue, billing milestones, reconciliations and month-end journals.
• Experience of accounts receivable, credit control and customer billing queries.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with accounting systems and project data.
• Excellent organisation and close attention to detail.
• The confidence to challenge incomplete information and follow up actions constructively.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to build effective relationships with scientific, operational and finance colleagues.

Experience within a CRO, life sciences, scientific services or another contract-led professional services environment would be particularly valuable. An accounting qualification, part-qualification or equivalent practical experience would also be welcomed.

What We Offer

A flexible approach to working. As this is a part-time role we can be flexible around the hours you work to complete all aspects of the role. We are anticipating this role will be around 25 hours per week which can be split across 3 to 5 days if this works for you. Please state on your application the hours you are available to work. This is an on-site in person role.
