IT cost Optimisation
ole Overview
iOPEX Technologies is looking for an experienced Technology Cost Optimisation / IT Cost Transformation Consultant to lead consulting-led cost optimisation initiatives for large enterprise clients.
The role will focus on identifying and executing opportunities to reduce enterprise software expenditure through application rationalisation, licence optimisation, vendor consolidation, commercial renegotiation and technology portfolio transformation.
We are looking for a hands-on consultant who has delivered measurable cost savings, rather than someone whose primary experience is implementing software asset management tools or developing high-level transformation frameworks.
Key Responsibilities
- Technology Cost Assessment: Assess enterprise software expenditure across products, vendors, contracts, licences and consumption to identify specific cost-reduction opportunities.
- Software Portfolio Rationalisation: Identify overlapping or redundant enterprise software products and recommend specific applications for consolidation, replacement, retirement or decommissioning.
- Cost Optimisation Execution: Develop and execute initiatives involving licence right-sizing, SaaS subscription optimisation, supplier consolidation, contract renegotiation and software footprint reduction.
- Business Case & Value Realisation: Quantify savings opportunities, develop product-level business cases and track actual cost reductions against agreed financial baselines.
- Enterprise Software Expertise: Evaluate optimisation opportunities across major software ecosystems such as Microsoft, Oracle, SAP, Salesforce, ServiceNow, VMware and enterprise SaaS portfolios.
- Client Advisory & Stakeholder Engagement: Work directly with CIOs, IT leadership, procurement, finance and technology teams to present recommendations, secure decisions and drive implementation.
- Consulting & Solution Development: Support client workshops, opportunity assessments, proposals and the development of detailed, evidence-backed optimisation recommendations.
Required Skills & Experience
- 10–15+ years of experience in technology consulting, IT cost transformation, technology value creation, software portfolio rationalisation or technology sourcing advisory.
- Proven experience delivering end-to-end technology cost reduction programmes, from opportunity identification through implementation and financial value realisation.
- Demonstrable examples of specific software products or platforms eliminated, replaced, consolidated or commercially optimised, with quantified savings.
- Strong understanding of enterprise software licensing, vendor commercial models, application portfolios, technology consumption and procurement economics.
- Ability to translate technical findings into commercially actionable recommendations, including savings calculations, implementation costs, dependencies and timelines.
- Experience working in large, complex enterprise environments with multiple business units, software vendors and technology platforms.
- Strong consulting, analytical, stakeholder management and executive presentation skills.
Preferred Background
- Previous experience with technology advisory or transformation practices at firms such as Deloitte, EY, KPMG, PwC, Capgemini Invent, PA Consulting, Alvarez & Marsal or similar specialist consulting organisations.
- Experience delivering technology cost optimisation programmes for UK telecommunications operators or other large enterprises.
- Familiarity with IT asset management, SAM and software discovery platforms such as Flexera, Snow Software or ServiceNow SAM Pro is advantageous, but tool implementation experience alone is not sufficient.
Critical Candidate Evaluation Criteria
Candidates should be able to demonstrate at least 2–3 real-world cost optimisation engagements, explaining:
- 1. Specific software products, platforms or vendors involved.
- 2. The inefficiencies identified and the rationale for consolidation, replacement or removal.
- 3. The optimisation actions implemented, including technical and commercial changes.
- 4. Original expenditure, quantified savings and actual financial outcomes.
- 5. Implementation timelines, challenges and lessons learned.
- Candidates must be able to discuss their experience in sufficient detail without breaching client confidentiality.
- Expected Outcomes
The selected consultant will initially support iOPEX in developing credible, product-specific technology cost optimisation propositions, conducting client advisory discussions and identifying executable savings opportunities. The role may subsequently expand into leading delivery of enterprise cost transformation programmes
