Job Description
As a Lead Engineer within the SSNA Platform Mechanical Integrated Delivery Team (IDT), you will play a key leadership role in delivering engineering solutions across some of the submarine platform’s most critical mechanical systems.

Core Duties
You’ll join the Platform Mechanical Integrated Delivery Team, a collaborative engineering group responsible for delivering critical submarine platform systems that enable safe and effective operation of the vessel.
Working alongside engineers from multiple disciplines, suppliers and partner organisations, you’ll contribute to the development and delivery of complex mechanical systems that are fundamental to submarine safety, operability and mission success. The team works across the engineering lifecycle, from requirements development and system integration through to qualification and delivery, providing excellent opportunities to broaden technical expertise, influence technical direction and develop leadership capability.
We offer relocation support packages across all Submarines roles, subject to meeting eligibility criteria.

Core Duties
- Leading delivery of assigned engineering scope, ensuring quality and timely outputs across design, integration, verification and qualification activities
- Providing technical ownership of mechanical systems, ensuring requirements are understood, interfaces are managed, and engineering solutions are delivered in line with programme needs
- Producing and reviewing engineering artefacts including technical documentation, calculations, analyses and engineering assessments
- Managing task allocation and delivery progress through structured tools such as Jira and Confluence, ensuring alignment with programme cost, schedule and milestone commitments
- Coaching and supporting engineers at all career stages, helping develop technical capability and engineering judgement within the team
- Collaborating with suppliers, partner organisations and internal stakeholders to resolve technical issues and maintain delivery performance
- Supporting design reviews, hazard assessments, change management activities and technical decision-making across the engineering lifecycle
- Identifying technical risks, delivery challenges and opportunities for improvement, driving actions that support successful programme outcomes
- Professional registration (IEng/CEng) or working towards
- A STEM-related degree with strong foundations in systems thinking, complex systems design and platform-level integration
- Demonstrable mechanical engineering experience, with a proven track record of delivering complex mechanical or multi-disciplinary engineering tasks in a regulated environment
- Experience in complex systems design, development and integration
- Proven experience of platform-level integration. Bringing together mechanical, electrical, systems and other disciplines to deliver integrated solutions
- Excellent communication, collaboration, mentoring and people leadership skills
- Familiarity with task and documentation management tools such as Jira and Confluence
