Location
Based in the Aimsun office in London, combined with remote working and the option of flexible hours.
The role
Aimsun is growing its UK team and is looking for a Senior Project Manager / Programme Delivery Manager to lead the delivery of complex, multi-disciplinary projects for our clients. You will be the main point of contact for clients and stakeholders, owning scope, programme, budget and quality from kick-off to final sign-off.
Our projects bring together transport planning, transport modelling, data science and software delivery, ranging from strategic and operational models to data platforms and real-time Digital Twin solutions for traffic management. Our clients are mostly public-sector bodies, such as national, regional and city transport authorities, alongside a growing base of private-sector clients.
You will lead teams of modellers, transport planners, data scientists and software engineers to deliver them. You don't need to be an expert in every discipline. We're looking for someone who has a strong record of delivering complex technical projects, understands enough of the detail to ask the right questions, and gets satisfaction from bringing work in on time and on budget.
You will be part of a European delivery team working across Aimsun's entities in Barcelona, Paris and London. Projects are delivered by colleagues from all three offices, so you will coordinate people, workstreams and clients across borders and time zones.
Responsibilities & tasks
Project and programme delivery
- Lead a portfolio of concurrent projects and programmes spanning transport planning, modelling, data and software, from mobilisation to handover.
- Own scope, programme, budget, risks, dependencies and resourcing, in line with Aimsun's project governance processes.
- Choose the right delivery approach for each piece of work, combining stage-gated methods with Agile and iterative practice for data and software workstreams.
- Track progress, forecast costs and margin, and act early when something is at risk of slipping.
- Make sure every project meets its contractual obligations, and flag commercial and contractual risks early.
- Manage change control and variations, making sure scope changes are agreed and recovered commercially.
- Manage interfaces with partners, subcontractors and third-party suppliers.
Client and stakeholder management
- Be the day-to-day lead for clients, running progress meetings, workshops, steering groups and stakeholder presentations.
- Understand each client's objectives and translate them into clear requirements and a technical brief for the team.
- Keep clients informed, manage expectations and resolve issues before they escalate.
- Spot opportunities for follow-on work and support account growth with both existing public-sector clients and new private-sector clients.
Leading multi-disciplinary teams
- Plan and allocate work across modellers, transport planners, data scientists and software developers, balancing priorities across your portfolio.
- Coordinate delivery across our Barcelona, Paris and London teams, making sure distributed teams work as one.
- Make sure deliverables are quality assured to the right standard, from model calibration and validation to data quality, software testing and release.
- Bridge technical teams and non-technical stakeholders, making sure each understands what the other needs.
- Coach and mentor project team members and help shape Aimsun's delivery practice.
- Comply with Aimsun’s policies, processes, guidelines, and procedures relevant to your role and workplace.
Bids and business development
- Contribute to proposals and tenders, including methodology, programme, risk and pricing.
- Represent Aimsun at client meetings, industry events and conferences.
Qualifications

- Chartered or working towards chartership (APM, CIHT, ICE or similar).
Skills
Required
- Excellent written and verbal communication, including presenting to non-technical audiences.
- Enough technical understanding of your field to scope work, challenge assumptions and quality-check outputs.
- Comfortable working with both structured (stage-gated) and Agile delivery methods.
Desirable
- Working knowledge of UK guidance such as DfT Transport Analysis Guidance (TAG) and the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges (DMRB).
- Familiarity with Python, SQL or other data tools.
Experience

- Significant experience leading the delivery of complex projects or programmes in one or more of: transport planning, transport modelling, data science and analytics, or software delivery.
- A track record of managing multi-disciplinary technical teams across several concurrent projects.

- Experience understanding and managing contractual obligations, including scope, deliverables, milestones, acceptance criteria, liabilities and payment terms, across a range of contract types and client frameworks.
- Experience managing client relationships and senior stakeholders, ideally with public-sector clients and an understanding of how private-sector clients differ.
Desirable
- Experience of transport modelling (microsimulation, mesoscopic or strategic), and familiarity with Aimsun Next or similar packages.
- Experience delivering software or data platforms, including requirements, integration, testing and deployment.
- Experience of traffic operations, ITS, real-time traffic management or digital twin projects.
- Experience working with UK public-sector clients such as local authorities, National Highways or Transport for London.
