Are you an analytical thinker who enjoys working with data, uncovering trends, and turning complex information into meaningful insight? We're looking for a Technical Analyst to join United Utilities' Environmental Performance Team, where you'll play a key role in supporting regulatory performance, environmental compliance, and business decision-making across our Water and Wastewater operations.

This is an exciting opportunity to work at the intersection of data, regulation, and operational performance. You'll be responsible for analysing and interpreting complex datasets, ensuring regulatory information is accurate and robust, and helping the business understand what the data is telling us. Your work will directly support performance reporting, regulatory submissions, and continuous improvement initiatives that help protect the environment and deliver excellent service to our customers.

Reporting to the Regulatory Operational Performance Manager, you'll work closely with colleagues across Environmental Performance, operational teams, and external stakeholders, giving you broad exposure across the business and the wider water industry.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Analysing operational and regulatory data to identify trends, risks, performance gaps, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Producing accurate, timely, and assured regulatory submissions, reports, and performance outputs, ensuring compliance with internal and external requirements.
  • Working collaboratively with operational teams, stakeholders, and Senior Technical Analysts to investigate issues, provide technical insight, and support informed decision-making.
  • Developing and delivering briefing materials, performance reports, and technical guidance that translate complex information into clear, actionable recommendations.
  • Supporting business planning activities, regulatory reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational and environmental performance.
  • Building and maintaining a strong understanding of regulatory requirements, industry developments, and emerging risks to support effective performance management.

What You'll Bring

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data interpretation skills, with the ability to identify trends, draw meaningful conclusions, and support informed decision-making.
  • Excellent planning, organisational, and workload management skills, with the ability to balance competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, capable of translating complex technical information into clear and actionable insight for a range of audiences.
  • Experience working with data, performance reporting, and corporate systems, ideally within a regulated or operational environment.
  • A proactive approach to continuous improvement, with a commitment to delivering high-quality outcomes and excellent service.
  • Knowledge of environmental regulation, compliance, ODI measures, or the water and wastewater industry would be advantageous.

Why This Role?

This is an opportunity to develop expertise in a highly visible area of the business where your work has a direct impact on regulatory performance, environmental outcomes, and operational decision-making.

You'll gain exposure across both Water and Wastewater Services, work with a diverse range of stakeholders, and develop a deep understanding of the regulatory landscape shaping the industry. Whether you're analysing performance trends, supporting regulatory submissions, or helping teams improve performance, you'll see the impact of your work firsthand.

You'll join a collaborative and supportive team that values curiosity, continuous improvement, and professional development. If you're looking for a role that combines technical analysis with genuine business influence, this is an excellent opportunity to grow your career while helping deliver essential services for millions of customers.
