Intensive Care Registrar

Job summary

Applications are invited for Intensive Care Registrars at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. These posts are for six months to one year, with potential extension depending on the needs of the applicant and the department. The applicant must be airway trained with RCOA IAC documentation or equivalent. There will be a regular opportunity for delivery of teaching. For any suitable overseas candidates there is an option for an extended contract for Visa purposes.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will be responsible for the daily review and management of critically ill adult patients in the critical care department. The candidate will be based on the Intensive Care Unit, but will also be responsible for reviewing and managing critically ill patients throughout the hospital, primarily on the wards and in the emergency department.

Under the supervision of the Intensive Care Consultants, you will assist in the assessment, admission, day-to-day management, investigation, practical procedures and final discharge of patients. The ITU registrars will be expected to work at the level of a Specialty Registrar, with increased responsibility for assessment and management of unwell patients in the ITU and hospital, and for the supervision of more junior trainees.

They will be supported in this by the consultant body.

Person Specification

Essential

MBBS or Equivalent Active registration and licence to practice with the GMC at the time of appointment Minimum of 18 months post-graduate medical experience in critical care and/or related specialities 6 months ITU experience in the UK Airway skills Advanced Life Support Commitment to continuing professional development Teaching Skills Experience of audit and quality improvement Good communication, organisational and leadership skills Ability to work in a Team

Desirable

Post-graduate qualification in critical care Formal training / experience in Critical Care Research and publications Strong motivation to maintain, improve and adjust service provision to changing needs
